I like Peoria's pitching staff this year. I have no idea how any of them will turn out, but it's nice to know there are a number of promising young arms in the lower levels of the system.

Albuquerque, Castillo, Ceda, Dolis, Maestri, Pawelek and Roquet!

Mathes' final line: 4 IP, 8 hits, 3 ERs, 1 BB, 4 Ks.

Cory Bailey pitched the 5th giving up a hit and striking out 1. Albuquerque still leads it 2-1, headed to the 6th.

Rain delay in Burlington in the middle of the 8th inning. Peoria got 2 more in the top of the 8th and lead it 8-3. Russ Canzler is 3/3 with a double and a triple, Wellington Castillo is 2 for 4 with a solo HR and, as mentioned, Josh Lansford has a 2-run HR. Maestri has thrown 2 shutout innings with a K.

Pie with a 1.272 OPS so far this year. I know it's early, but he's definitely on fire right now.

Wow, Iowa's lead is only 7-6 now in the bottom of the 9th. Rapada has allowed 3 runs while only retiring one. Albuquerque has runners at 1st and 2nd with only one out still.

Scott Moore just drove in Soto on an RBI single, giving Iowa an 8-7 lead.

Pie grounded out to start the 10th and EPatt struck out swinging before Moore came to the plate.

7-14 with 2 walks to start the season is great and all, but my biggest worry with Felix has always been his ability to hit for extra bases.

I guess raw knows how to push Felix's buttons like I know how to push Dolis' buttons.

Scott Moore singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as Iowa defeated Albuquerque, 9-7, on Tuesday.

With the score tied in the 10th, 7-7, Geovany Soto and Micah Hoffpauir singled with one out against reliever Nate Field (0-1). After Eric Patterson struck out, Moore lined a base hit into right field to plate Soto. Hoffpauir raced home when Field threw a wild third strike to Buck Coats.

Hoffpauir went 3-for-4 with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Felix Pie was 2-for-5 with a solo homer and three runs scored for the Cubs (3-3). Coats connected on a solo shot in the third.

Reliever Federico Baez (1-0) recorded the last four outs to notch the win. The 25-year-old right-hander gave up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

The Isotopes (3-3) rallied for four runs in the ninth on John Gall's RBI single, Scott Seabol's two-run single and Paul Hoover's bases-loaded walk.

PeoriaChiefs.com[/url]"]Canzler, Castillo Lead Chiefs to 8-3 Win

Burlington, IA – The Peoria Chiefs started hot again and Jose Ceda struck out a career high eight en route to an 8-3 rain shortened win Tuesday night over the Burlington Bees. The Chiefs improve to 3-0 as the game was called after a second rain delay at 10:00 pm with the Bees getting ready to bat in the bottom of the eighth.Box Score

For the third straight night, the Chiefs jumped out to a lead. With one out in the top of the first, Valerio Heredia reached on a dropped third strike and went to second on an error by first baseman Mike Thompson. Josh Lansford capitalized on the Burlington mistakes blasting a two-run homer to left for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Russ Canzler followed with a double and stole third before scoring on an Alfred Joseph sacrifice fly to left field.

With one out in the second inning, Wellington Castillo drilled his first career homer, a solo shot to left for a 4-0 Chiefs lead. Jonathon Mota followed with a walk, stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw by catcher Brady Everett. Matt Camp’s sharp grounder to first scored Mota for a 5-0 Chiefs lead.

The Bees got on the board against Chiefs starter Jose Ceda in their half of the second. Marc Maddox led off with a single to right and with one out, Mike Thompson homered to left to cut the Chiefs lead to 5-2. Ceda recovered to rack up three more strikeouts over the next two innings.

A third Burlington error gave the Chiefs a 6-2 lead in the third. With one down, Canzler tripled down the right field line. Joseph lifted a fly ball to right that was dropped by OD Gonzalez allowing Canzler to score.

Ceda pitched through a 14 minute rain delay in the third inning to tie a career high with five innings pitched. The 20 year old right-hander became the third Chiefs starter to establish a new career high in strikeouts in as many starts this season. Ceda struck out eight, walked two and allowed two earned runs on three hits.

Alex Maestri threw two hitless innings and was ready to start the eighth when the game was called due to excessive rain.

Worries gone for at least a day.
