Not a good start for Veal.

Iowa up 3-0 in the first. Buck Coats had an RBI single that scored 2. Patterson and Pie both walked.

1-1 after in Daytona.

Samardzija: 5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 H, 1 K, 1 BB

Samardzija's night is over, that's his final line.

That's not a bad line. Shark is pretty good.

I'd like to see more K's from him, but that's definitely a good line to start the season.

Iowa now up 6-0 in the 3rd. EPatt reached on an error and Pie singled. Hoffpauir drove both of them in with an RBI double. Soto just drove in Hoffpauir with an RBI single.

I-Cubs are going to be a pretty good team this year.

Dope now 3-3 with 3 singles; he's batting .833.

I'd like to see the Dope Slaps return.

just make contact...the hr's will come

Smokies lose 5-0 :( Unfortunately, I can see Tennessee being shut out a lot this year. The offense is anemic, to say the least. Bullpen was great though. Mueller, Reinhard, and Henderson didn't allow a run and only allowed 2 hits. Dope finished 3/4.

Smokies update, I thought the "Don" was going to have a good night especially after his 1st inning but the he struggled with his control. He got behind a lot of the hitters and as Sean learned when he moved up last year, these hitters are going to make you throw strikes with all your pitches. As for the ball hit to the RF I was standing there along RF and thought the OF'er was going to make the catch. I would have scored it an error cause it hit off the OF'er glove but as I have learned watching these games that the 'Homer's score keeper" scores things differently.

Tough to watch hitting wise as they had their share of hits but couldn't put anything together. "Dope" is swinging a "hot" bat and Craig broke every bat he had tonight. Also concur the bullpen did a great job tonight.

Ugh, Daytona loses in the bottom of the 11th. Daytona scored in the top of the 11th on a sac fly by Kyle Reynolds, which scored Nate Spears. Petrick pitched a second inning and gave up three straight singles before getting an out on a sac bunt. After a walk to load the bases, BC had a walkoff single to win it.

Iowa up 6-2 in the bottom of the 9th. Wells had a great outing: 6 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

Iowa wins it 6-2. Cherry allowed a run in 1 and 2/3s, but struck out 4. Rapada had a K to end the game.

Pie was 1/2 with a walk and 2 runs scored. But he was pinch hit by Moore in the 8th. Moore moved to LF for the rest of the game and Pie moved to CF. Hopefully everything is all right with Felix. EPatt was 0/3 with a walk and 2 runs scored as well. Hoffpauir was 3/4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.

I'd like to see the Dope Slaps return.

I'd take a Dope Double, he has no XBHs yet this season.

He's been hitting the ball hard though, and that's all that matters to me at this point.

Oh, no doubt.

I didn't hear the actual play on the triple, but from a few comments made by Mick later in the game, it seems like he thought the scoring was a bit iffy as well.

Thanks for the update!

Anyone have Shark's GB/FB ratio? With the lack of Ks, I'd hope he had the GB working.

I think it is too early to worry about the number of K's. From what I have seen, the K's will come as he matures as a pitcher.
