Oddly, the two AL teams Lilly struggled with the most last season were Kansas City (10 ER in 10.1 IP) and Tampa Bay (10 ER in 13.1 IP). Over the past 3 years he was actually quite good against the Red Sox, too- 3.27 ERA in 14 starts, allowing 73 hits in 85.1 IP an 82:36 K:BB mark.

Never did too hot against the Yankees though...then again who does. Either way, being in the NL Central should certainly help; anyone checked out the Cardinals' offense lately? 8-)

This was good to read today in the Sun-Times:

CINCINNATI -- After managing only eight singles and an unearned run in their season opener Monday, the Cubs scheduled early batting practice 4½ hours before the game Wednesday.

Lou encourages extra BP

Looks like the country club atmosphere from the Dusty Baker era is gone. :D

In Wednesday's game, the Cubs led 4-1 in the ninth, and Piniella put in closer Ryan Dempster, who lost a lot ogames and a lot of confidence last year. He is a big piece of what this year's team is going to be.

Dempster got the first out, then walked the next guy. Ken Griffey Jr. was up next, and Dempster threw ball one to him.

And then Piniella came out to talk to Dempster. He said something that lasted about five seconds, then turned and went back to the dugout.

''He said I looked good in my pants, which was nice,'' Dempster said. ''I hadn't noticed.''

Dempster is so awesome. If he could close as well as he is being funny, man...

This is why I would kill to have the 2003 Mark Prior back, though. Imagine a four game series where you face Z, Lilly, Prior, and Hill, in that order. Get through that without your brain fried and you deserve a medal.

Better yet, imagine 2003 Prior, 2003 Zambrano, and 2003 Wood all scheduled to take the mound, and you're only ONE WIN AWAY from going to the WS!!!

Ok, totally uncalled for and I apologize.
