My bold predictions:

1) The Cubs will win more than 66 games this year.

2) Jason Marquis will have an ERA under 6.

3) Three Cubs cancel each other out in the MVP race.

Can I assume wgnradio.com will be blocked out?

Yep. Gameday Audio or no soup for you. I'm picturing that Simpsons episode where Mark Mcguire emerges at the end of the episode and gives the MLB legal eagle 'no game may be replayed, etc. ...' speech after Bart shot down an MLB surveillance satellite.

... "Now who wants to see me hit some dingers?!"

Now would be a good time for me to see if my Gameday subscription was set to auto renew.

Anyone else remember last year when we had to listen to the A's broadcaster for a game and everyone kept sending e-mails to the guy non stop?

I just bought the mlb.tv package so I can listen to the game without buzzing and I came to the realization that mlb.com sucks. The site design is terrible. I can't even figure out how to log in and I sure as heck can't figure out where I go for gameday audio. Is there a subscribers page for mlb.tv? I have no idea because mlb has a terrible site. It also makes me angry that on the schedule they have little tv's indicating all the games are available on mlb.tv when I know that is not true. The only reason I can see for doing that is tricking people. I hate mlb.com.

14-16 6.02 ERA (2006)

... I think we're all a little gunshy when posting an ERA like that. Way to take one for the team.

Game Notes

New manager Lou Piniella is the Cubs’ 50th skipper in franchise history … he owns a 1,519-1,420 (.517) managerial record at the helm of the Yankees (1986-88), the Reds (1990-92), the Mariners (1993-2002) and the Devil Rays (2003-05).

Piniella’s 1,519 victories rank fourth among active managers:

Rank Manager (club) Victories

1. Tony LaRussa (STL) 2,297

2. Bobby Cox (ATL) 2,171

3. Joe Torre (NYY) 1,973

4. Lou Piniella (CHI) 1,519

Chicago enters the 2007 season with 10 new players on the 40-man roster since the conclusion of the 2006 campaign.

Six free agents signed: IF Mark DeRosa, OF Cliff Floyd, LHP Ted Lilly, RHP

Jason Marquis, OF Alfonso Soriano and OF Daryle Ward.

One player acquired via trade: LHP Neal Cotts.

Three players promoted: RHP Rocky Cherry, LHP Clay Rapada and RHP Jeff Samardzija.

Jason, who signed a three-year deal with the Cubs in December of 2006, has 42 victories over the last three seasons … the 42 wins are more than Barry Zito (41), Jason Schmidt (41) and Pedro Martinez (40) have in that same span.

Marquis spent the previous three seasons with division rival St. Louis after pitching for the Braves from 2000-2003.

As a starter, has compiled a 54-52 record with a 4.49 ERA (411 ER/824.1 IP) in 137 career outings.

Has gone 43-26 with a 3.01 ERA (203 ER/606.2 IP) in 88 starts in which he tossed 6.0 or more innings … has an 11-26 mark with an 8.59 ERA (208 ER/218.0 IP) in 49 starts that lasted less than 6.0 innings.

Captured the 2005 NL Silver Slugger Award for pitchers … was the first Cardinals pitcher to win a Silver Slugger since Bob Forsch in 1987.

Has made nine postseason appearances, including two outings (one start) in the 2004 World Series as a member of the NL Champion St. Louis Cardinals.

Was teammates with Mark DeRosa and Henry Blanco in Atlanta from 2002-03.

Graduated in 1996 from Tottenville (N.Y.) High School, where he played baseball and basketball and was a member of the National Honor Society.

This lineup gets me on the Piniella bandwagon.

Thanks for the lineups, Bruce! I'll edit the Giants' into the first post.

From Cubs.com: Other pitchers slated to see action Thursday include Les Walrond, John Webb, Carmen Pignatiello, Ben Howard, Rocky Cherry, Randy Wells and Jason Anderson.

Is Rocky a given name on his birth certificate or is a nickname from another name? I always wonder how people get named Rocky.

I'm not sure about Mr. Cherry, but I know that parents can be very cruel in naming children. I heard of a family where I lived with the last name of Road who named their two sons Rocky and Dusty. I also went to school with Sunshine Monday and Mary Christmas.

Are the Giants playing a split squad game? I knew that Bonds wouldn't make it but their lineup stinks. Vizquel is the only who could start on the Cubs.

I knew a pair of girls in school who had some hippie parents...the girls were named Liberty and America (Shortened to Mici). My mom worked for a Vice President of a community college...his name was Dr. Tom Thomas. And finally, a company that I have worked at has a corporate directory, and there's a lady named Tijuana Hooker.

Rocky Ty Cherry is his given name. Buck Coats is Buck Coats' given name. I wrote a little ditty about this the other day. Rocky Cherry and Buck Coats are pretty cool "baseball names." At least I think they are.

I didn't realize those were their given names, thanks!

Names can be tough at times no doubt. I just wondered if Rocky was derived from another name.
