St Louis Post Dispatch

...the Cardinals recently told agents representing... Roger Clemens that they are interested should the 44-year-old expand his list of potential 2007 landing spots beyond Houston, New York and Boston.

Much of their two-hour meeting focused on Hendricks clients Braden Looper and Kip Wells, but Clemens was discussed.

Jocketty said. "He's someone we've expressed interest in before..."

Dave Duncan said he had not been approached regarding Clemens and estimated the odds of pulling such a coup as "more like 2 million to 1."

Jocketty... acknowledged that he is intrigued by Clemens' availability while trying to suppress any irrational expectations.

Tony La Russa declined to address the matter... citing its potential as "a distraction" as the Cardinals piece together a rotation...

In December, the Cardinals made an eleventh-hour push for free-agent lefthander Andy Pettitte, another Hendricks client, shortly before Pettitte signed a one-year contract to return to the New York Yankees.

I kinda wish the'd gotten Pettitte.

I wonder if this is any indication that they're already having concerns about having Braden Looper as their #4 starter...

In a rational world, those concerns would have begun the minute they named Looper as their #4 starter.

Yeah, but this is St. Louis...there is still scattered talk of Rick Ankiel winning 15 games this year.

No way, no how are the Cardinals going to lay down the money it'll take to get Clemens.

I think that the chances of it happening are slim (and the Cards know it but asked any way).

Wow, I thought Ankiel was an outfielder now.

I heard Jason Stark on ESPN this morning talking about this. He said there is zero chance of this happening. Mainly due to a rule I am not familiar with. He did say, if Clemens pitches in the NL it will only be with the Astros.

Anyone have any information on this rule Stark is referencing?

A coworker heard. Starke said that Clemens couldn't pitch for a National League team other than the Astros because he has a 10-year personal services contract with them. I don't know any other details.

I'm so sick of Clemens and his annual dog-and-pony show. He can't be a ballplayer like everyone else and report to spring training, he needs to set his own timeframe for what he thinks is a season. His "I'll sign and play when I'm good and ready" attitude is a slap in the face to baseball.

Scattered talk of Ankiel winning 15 games this year? Is that via GWRBI? Making an assist from the outfield? I hear Steve Blass is trying to make a comeback. . .
