I'm in a yahoo keeper league in which we hold over 8 players from last year. I've got my list and opinions, but I'd like to hear which 8 guys you'd keep from the same group. A couple tough decisions:

Bay

Eric Chavez

S. Drew

P. Feliz

Furcal

Mora

Br Roberts

Sizemore

Tejada

Thames

Uggla

Varitek

Willingham

A Benitez

Ch Cordero

Garland

Lackey

Liriano

Lowry

Marshall

Rogers

E. Santana

Sheets

Shields

Chris R. Young

I'll post mine soon, thanks for partaking in this completely useless activity.

IMO:

Sizemore

Bay

Sheets

Chris R. Young

Furcal

Uggla

Chad Codero

Tejada - although I'm just not sure about this last slot

Liriano isn't going to pitch for at least 1 full season. I wouldn't keep Furcal over Drew, especially since you have Tejada. Might as well keep the long term option with the short term starter already in the fold.

Since this is a keeper league I probably would keep Liriano (in fact, I did in a keeper league I'm in), although it would depend on how many DL spots there are since he'd require one for the entire year. Recovery from TJS is much more routine and shorter than it used to be, so I'd expect him to have a big comeback season in 2008.

I agree.

Can you afford to stash him for 1+ years? He isn't going to pitch at all this year. Then a rehab year...

To me it all depends on how long you think the league will be around. If you're thinking long term, I think you have to keep him (b/c who ever drafts him this year is going to keep him for next year and you'll never see him again). If this is a league that you don't expect to be around for several years, I'd let him go.

Before I saw anybody's picks:

Sheets

Bay

Drew

Sizemore

Tejada (deal him for a power hitting corner or OF'er)

Roberts

Chris Young

Lackey

Are you assuming C eligibility for Willingham? If he has C eligibility, I agree. If not, then he's an average OF'er.

Rehab from TJS these days goes a lot faster than it once did (such as when Kerry Wood had his, for example). He may be able to do his rehab in the latter part of this season, then maybe play winter ball and be fully recovered by the beginning of next year. Don't forget, Ryan Dempster was pitching less than nine months after the surgery and back to full strength by the start of the next season.

I think Ervin Santana is going to have his break out year this year. I'd definitely consider keeping him. I'd go with:

Thanks for all the replies. Well I ended up keeping Sizemore, Tejada, Bay, Roberts, Sheets, Lackey, Santana, and Young.

It hurt to let go of Furcal but Roberts is about the same player and I have Tejada at SS and I wanted the flexibility in my Util spot. I really wanted to keep Uggla too, but same thing with Roberts at 2B.

I couldn't afford to sit on Liriano for a year, and in a year and a half there's no guarantee he'll be the same lights-out pitcher he was in 2006. He may well be, but it remains to be seen.

Sheets is always an injury risk, but he had a really solid 2nd half last year, so I hope he's back in form.

Fantasy Draft time is one of my favorite times of the year.

My thinking as well.
