I have Liriano, whom is known to be out for the entire year due to TJS. Looking strictly at the letter of the law, I probably couldn't place him on my DL yet since he isn't officially on the major league DL (I don't think teams can place players on the DL this early). Thinking in terms of the spirit of the rule, however, it doesn't seem to me like I should need to keep a spot for him now on the active or reserve roster, which in effect would give me one less spot than allowed, just because he isn't yet on the major league DL. However, I'll abide by the ruling of the court. :D

I would imagine you can just keep your roster illegal until it's time to set rosters. You wouldn't be able to make trades while it's illegal, but I'm not aware that you have to make all your drops and get legal until just prior to the start of the season.

At the same time, I don't see the harm in allowing players to go to the DL right away. It's where I put Pedro.

your roster needs to be legal by the first waivers run - which will be next saturday night.

But, what's legal? Players that are injured and not scheduled to start the season can or can't be on IR? Pedro is out until midseason. Jose Guillen's status is still up in the air.

I'd say if a player is known to be out until later in the season for certain that he could be placed on the IR right now. For instance, on my team, I'd say that it's fair to say that Mulder could be placed there, but Weeks and Unit couldn't be even though they both ended last year with surgery and have the red crosses next to their names.

Apparently not. And it's too late to change minds now, because I just made a drop to get my team legal by moving Jose Guillen to reserve from IR.

basically if a guy is going on the 60-day, you can IR him. If there is some question, you can't. Look at this way, I'll let you IR him but if he starts the season on the 25 man, you lose him. seem fair? We'll make the same deal with minor leaguers. Once you put him there, no take backs though.

on the other hand, that isn't very much risk. so maybe that isn't fair. I think only players that are known to be out until mid-season belong on the IR. So, Pedro, Mulder, Prior, ok . . . but not guys nursing injuries.

I will accept players who ended in the minors being placed in the minors. Marshall probably doesn't qualify under that rule though.

you think he'll be ready to go? I'm making a bad joke. one that i am tired of seeing.

Should have read this before I posted my e-mail:)

So I am hearing that Nick Johnson may definitely qualify, but J Johnson may not.

I put Jon Lester on the IR for now, but it's beginning to sound like he's doing real well and will start in the minors. I guess I'll have to take him off real soon. :?

I would take him off now or you will lose him.

Ok, done.

I can't believe how fast Lester is back to pitching.
