At what point does eligibility get updated for each player?

I noticed that David Ortiz is still listed at 1b. By my calculations, he shouldn't have been eligible at 1b last year, let alone this year. At least not until he played in the 10th game of each season.

It looks like Thome should be ineligible at 1b as well.

The league software has a flaw in that you could leave a player at a position forever. You can't switch him to a position he's not eligible for, but you can leave him in one. It's up to us to police those things and get the owners to change them out.

Have I screwed up here ? Ortiz played 10 games last year making him eligible. If I go to my lineup, he has the option to be a 1b or a U. Is it 20 last season and 10 this season ? Or, once a player plays 10, he's eligible until he loses it by playing less than 10 in a season ?

If not, I'm looking at drastic changes and should have accounted for this before 4 pm today to have drafted accordingly.

Input is appreciated.

My understanding is that if he didn't play first base 20 games last year, he won't be eligible at 1B until he's played 10 games this year.

That is my understanding as well. Same with Jim Thome.

I apologize for not pointing it out sooner, but I didn't realize it until I was going through rosters after the draft.

There are still some 1b's available via FA, however. I'm sure someone would be willing to consider a trade before the season starts as well.

Of course, we both just happen to have an extra first baseman. :D

Strange though - as I look at eligibilities around the league it has Aubrey Huff eligible at 1st even though he played 3 games there.

It looks like I screwed up, but a cursory glance gives plenty of ineligibility issues.

I believe it has Huff eligible at 1B because that is his primary position heading into this season. He's eligible at 3B and U because of games played.

I would disagree that Huff should have eligibility there until he serves his 20 games.

They are assuming that will be his primary position.

Correct - just as you'd assume Ortiz would be the primary 1b if Youkilis went down or played 3rd or played LF.

Bottom line - I have to fix my roster.

I have 3 1b's. :D

Fine...Adam and I each have two good 1B's. :P

(and I actually have three if you want to count Vic)

I have so many 1Bs (Gonzalez, Garko, and Loney) that I released Conor Jackson (you can thank me any time, Tim). :D

Thank you. I have no idea why you released him, but I'm glad you did.

It was a tough decision, but since Gonzalez stepped up last year, Garko showed a lot of promise in his late season callup, and we decided against adding the second utility position, it just became a numbers game and Gonzalez strikes me as having more power. Had we decided to add the second utility position I would have kept him.

Well, last year I had none, so it's a start. My 1b's last year were Chris Shelton and Mike Jacobs. I couldn't get anything better than that because everyone is so stingy with their damn 1b's.

It's not my team, but I would have ranked them:

Jackson

Gonzalez

Loney

Garko

I'd move Loney up a spot if the Dodgers weren't blocking him.

I was really split between Jackson and Gonzalez; I think it could go either way. I was comparing them directly against each other, though, since neither of them are minor league eligible while both Loney and Garko are. That buys me some time to see how things unfold with them.

I really like players that walk 30 more times than they k while coming up through the minors. I also like the chances of a guy that's 6'2", 225 lbs and that squares the ball as well as Jackson to add to his HR totals significantly as he ages.
