Miguel Cabrera and the Florida Marlins went to an arbitration hearing Friday, with the All-Star third baseman asking for $7.4 million and the team offering $6.7 million.

 

Four players remain scheduled for hearings next week: Baltimore's Erik Bedard, Washington's Chad Cordero, San Diego's Todd Walker and Chicago Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano

Wow...they went to arbitration over that small a difference? I can't believe neither side could find a solution there. I also have a hard time believing Cabrera won't win that contest. He posted a .998 OPS last season.

Cabrera is gonna go Manny Ramirez on the Marlins this year. But unlike Manny, Miggy has a great contract situation and he will actually be traded. Of course, the Cubs won't get him, but still it's gonna be fun to watch another blowup in South Florida.

I would be happy if the Cubs got him of course, but not through a trade. Wait until he's a FA. I don't like the prospect of giving up the farm for someone like him. His weight gain over the last year or two would have me a little concerned over trading as much as it would take to get what Florida would be marketing as a cornerstone player. My fears could be pure unwarranted, but I'm doubtful he'll keep his production up if he doesn't start taking better care of himself. He did not appear as if he'd took that good of care of himself from 05 to 06.
