Heard on xm radio that the Cubs sandwich pick at 31st or the very 1st sandwich pick for Juan Pierre has now been flipped flopped with the Nationals for the Cubs signing Soriano. They said the reasoning was that Soriano was ranked an A player and Pierre was ranked a B player. Its funny that for almost 2 months the Cubs had the 31st pick and then MLB changes its mind and the Cubs lose 17 spots in the draft, I guess they should feel lucky getting that high of a pick for Pierre anyways.

This is the first I've heard of it, especially given the recently revised CBA laid out this new compensation clearly. I don't think it had anything on there about flipping draft slots like this.

What XM show did you hear this on?

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to Ask BA/Ask Callis!

He addressed it today (2/9) in AskBA

He confirmed that the Cubs will pick #48 instead of #31 in the Supplemental First Round. All teams losing Type A FA's will select before teams that lost Type B FA's.

That pretty much came out of nowhere.
