I'm cool with everything GRCubsFan said. And GilesBros, I'd love to have you, but it looks like it will just be easier to keep it at 10. Apparently, there are gonna be a bunch of other leagues to pop up, so keep an eye out.

Y! opens tomorrow

Yeah, WTF is up with that? Earlier this week it said it's open on Thursday, did it not? I'm opening up a league for myself and my friends and I could've sworn it said Thursday... those bastards.

It did in fact. I even posted earlier here that I'd open the league today. Now I look like an idiot.

Though it says on my Y! fantasy hoops page that they're doing some big upgrade tonight, so that might be part of the reason.

this is good with me too - do you need our yahoo id's to get things set up (or email address?). I'd be happy to PM to whomever is setting up the league if that's necessary.

I'll send everyone a pm with the League ID & password. You'll need a Y! account, if you don't already have one.

We still need to figure out what type of draft to have. Live online (where you can be there in person or just preset your rankings) or offline. I'm fine with either, though if we do live online, it could take a long time to draft 250 or so players. On the other hand, as anyone who has been following the other fantasy league draft on nsbb knows, if you do offline in baseball, you'll probably have a couple people pick a player that's already been taken.

I'll see what the options are for live online drafts tomorrow. If we can do it online through Y! but over a few days rather than try to hammer it out in a few hours, that might be best.

I can't see how it would take you more than 2, 2 1/2 hours at the absolute very most to pick your players in a 10 team league-just letting you know so that you have more information when trying to decide what type of draft to have.

I just did a 27 round, ten team mock draft on sportingnews.com and it took about an hour and a half.

I've been in a 16-team league the past several years and the live draft has taken no longer than a couple of hours. It goes quicker than one might think. There's usually a time limit for making each pick, and those who are actually online participating (as opposed to having their teams autodrafted based on prerankings) frequently take less than the allowable amount of time because they frequently already know who they want when their turn comes. I've never participated in an offline draft before, but I'd think an online draft would be much quicker.

How do leagues work? If I don't get in one that starts soon won't that take away from some of the experience? IE: if the season starts you already start to see how some players are doing. And the fun is guessing BEFORE hand. .

Most leagues start right on Opening Day, but some late-forming leagues start later (the start of the season is one of the settings that the commissioner chooses). Since the season doesn't start until early April there's about a month and a half window to form leagues and still be ready to start on time. I think it's better to form leagues as early as possible because that gives you more flexibility for selecting a draft time. Since you're forming a league (I saw the other thread you started) a good way for you to learn about some of that would be to set up the league as soon as possible, then you can look at the commissioner tools to see what all you can do as far as league settings are concerned. Once you've set up the league you can either post the registration information in this forum or else ask interested people to respond but send the actual information out via e-mail or PM. If you post the information here anybody can join and once the maximum number of teams (which you as commissioner set) is reached the league will be full. If you want some control over who joins the league, as opposed to first-come, first-served, you might be better off sending out the registration information (league ID and password) by e-mail or PM. Keep in mind that if you open the league to anybody there may be people joining who aren't even NSBB members but just lurk without posting.

10 teams of mostly new-to-fantasy-baseball guys? 2.5 hours? I've had fantasy hoops drafts of relatively experienced guys - 8 teams, 12 picks each last much longer than 2.5 hours.

Y! opens tomorrow, so I'll set up a H2H 5x5 league with a cap of 1350 on IP. The standard starters I listed above with 6 bench spots and 2 DL spots. Commissioner review of trades.

If anyone is terribly upset about that, post here. We're forming a league backwards here (usually you set up the league and then look for teams to join), so it's going to be difficult for everyone to have exactly what they want.

I'll pass, I'd rather play roto.

A New Era/GilesBros, you want in, then?

Sorry, but H2H clearly had more support. We kinda put the cart before the horse here.

Roto is really the way to go. Roto rewards the best team all season and doesn't allow for flukes like H2H does.

in head to head, flukes don't consistently win, so I really don't see that this is true.

In head to head, the four seed wins the entire league quite often. Not to mention the 2 and 3 seeds.

I certainly agree that the final champion in H2H isn't always the best team. I have one fantasy hoops league now where I'm up about 10-12 games on the #2 team. But come playoff time, 1 bad week or injury to a key player and I might finish 2nd or even 4th.

But for a league full of mostly new players, I fear a couple teams having a bad draft, getting way behind in roto and having no chance of catching up (then giving up). I think H2H gives teams a chance to recover quicker and still have a shot at the playoffs, where anything can happen.

I like the fluke aspect of head 2 head leagues... it mimics real life.

Just look at the Cardinals!

Oh yeah, it's Feb. 16th...... why aren't the damn leagues available to open yet? GET ON THE BALL, YAHOO!

Hey it's ok, no hard feelings. There will be other leagues.

You have a point, I think it's purely a matter of choice.

And I have no idea what's up with Y!. They still say fantasy baseball is "On Deck" and will be available 2/16. So when it's open, I'll create the league and let you all know.

I set up the league (NSBB 2007). I've sent the ID and password via pm to all the people who joined (including ANewEra, instead of Balsa who opted out). If you think you signed up but don't have a pm from me, let me know.

If you go to the Y! fantasy homepage and click on "Sign Up Now" under baseball, there's a link to the right for Join a League under Baseball '07 (note - NOT BASEBALL PLUS - you have to pay for that one).

On the next page, select Join Custom. Enter the League ID/Password.

I set up the league for online draft to take place March 3 at noon EST. I just picked a time out of a hat b/c I had to enter one. We can move the draft time. Basically, with live online you can either enter preset rankings, and your team will be drafted for you during the draft, or you can participate live online. We'll try to pick a time that works for most people.

Let me know if you have any trouble logging in to the league.

For those of you interested in H2H leagues I have one started w/ mostly NSBBers. It's a nice league of some experienced players and new players.

16 teams, live draft, ESPN hosted. Free to play.

If your interested, PM me an e-mail address that I can send an invite. We still need about 8 teams.

<--- KMacCurve (original, I know)

I'm good with doing a live draft, but can not do it on the 3rd as it's scheduled now. I'm finishing an MBA and have class from 9:30-12:30 on Saturday 3/3. Is there another time we could do this? Perhaps on 3/4?

Thanks!
