On a whim I added my name to the waiting list today. I'm number 28408.

Any clue on how many open up each year? I'm figuring by the time I retire I might have a shot.

Another bad season and the necessary ticket price increase next season to help cover for these absurd contracts will probably thin out the list.

I'm sure there's some duplication on the list, but I guess that it will be a long time before a lot of spots open up.

People will be reluctant to give up their tix because they know if the Cubs start winning, they will never get them back.

So where are you at on the list Vance? (I know you've got to be on there somewhere)

I'll have to check. I think somewhere around 3000. However, I have no intention of buying anytime soon since I'm stuck in LA. If I bought, I'd either scalp or try to sell away my option each year until I could use them more regularly.

I hope to get called around the time I retire and then can have a summer home in the area. :)

My thoughts exactly. Maybe we can be neighbors. I think we've got kids at about the same age...(a boy 2yrs 4 mths, and a boy 4 mths)....hopefully THEY"LL get to see a Cubs WS sometime.

Yeah...my daughter is 2 1/2 and growing up fast.

We'll see.

I put my name on the list in 2003 when I thought I might be moving to southern Illinois and figured I'd use the weekend tix and then sell the rest. I've moved maybe 300 spots in three years.

300 spots in 3 years...at that rate, my spot #28000+ will be ready sometime when my kids retire.

May not be THAT long if we keep stinking.

I signed up just after the '05 season and I'm currently number 7048.

I'm banking on having good seats in time for my dream lakehouse and sail boat of a retirement... which is probably a good 40 years away. And whenever my spot comes up, it'll me, weekend tix, and eBay until then.

A question in this regard...when tickets come open...to you just get the ones that come open, or are all other season ticket holders offere the ability to "upgrade" to the seats, if they are better.

I'm pretty sure season ticket holders have the option of upgrading first.

I signed up on a whim a couple years ago, but after getting my initial letter in the mail telling me my number, I haven't had contact from the Cubs about my rank on the list. How do you guys go about finding your up-to-date number?

I just signed up and am 28509.

I figure by the time I hit the top of the list I'll either have enough money to get them myself or know enough people so that I could sell them off. :)

Why do they have 2007 as an optional year on the birthdays?

So that people can get newborns on the list, I guess, and they might have a shot of getting tickets before they have to sign their children onto it.

The Cubs are loving this. The fact that there's 28000+ names on a season ticket waiting list can be used to tout the demand for tickets and keep current season ticket holders from releasing their seats. It makes it easier to raise ticket prices and so forth. If the single seat sales slow down, the Cubs can use the waiting list to increase season tickets and eat into the single seat inventory. People likely would be afraid to turn down the chance fearing they'd never get those seats again in their lifetime.

According to my ticket rep with the Cubs, they had a 95% renewal rate before they signed Soriano.

BTW, as a reminder to season ticketholders-the money is due by Jan 15th.

You cant sign up unless you're 18.

Wait, so vance signed up in 2003 and he's ~3000 on the list and has only moved up a few hundred spots since signing up. So the waiting list has grown by ~25k in 4 years?

Not that I don't see why...after 2003, the Cubs became an even hotter ticket.

According to my own spot in line they went through about 300 spots on the waiting list this offseason. I went from 1000 to 731. Maybe in a few more years.
