we all know about the blood clot in the lung(s), but what is the official word on his playing career and also his spot on the cubs roster? if he's sitting out for 6-12 months, can the cubs just waive him and open up a roster spot? sounds terrible in principle since he had no control over the clots, but if he's just wasting space on the roster (you can insert your glendon rusch wasting a roster spot joke here), why keep him?

I'm no expert, but I believe the Cubs could just put him on the 60 day IR and he wouldn't take up a spot. If it turns out his career is over then he wouldn't be on the roster and Insurance would pay his salary.

I wish him the very best of luck with his potentially serious medical issues, but in a baseball sense, he really can't be on the roster anymore.

Yeah. I want him to recover but I don't want him on the Cubs roster.

He can't go on the 60 day DL until the season starts. In the meantime, he'd take up a roster spot.
