This time for a guy who hasn't played in the majors since 2003:

John Bale-S-Royals Dec. 8 - 2:13 pm et

Royals signed LHP John Bale to a two-year, $4 million contract.

Another unexpected move by the Royals. Bale, 32, last was in the majors with the Reds in 2003, amassing a 4.47 ERA in 46 1/3 innings. He had since pitched in Japan, going 11-10 with a 4.21 ERA as a starter his first year there and posting ERAs of 3.19 and 2.93 while spending most of the last two seasons in the pen. The Royals didn't specify how he'll be used, instead saying that he could compete for a number of roles. He'll probably begin the year in the pen, though he shouldn't be reduced to a specialist role.

Has Kerry Wood really played in the majors since 2004?

This is so random. Did the Royals strike oil under Kauffman stadium or something??

I don't think so, they're just spending some of this windfall money that teams get from TV and merchandising. There's a whole lot of owners pocketing the money and crying that they're poor. The way things are now, money made from attendance is a small percentage of what these teams get.

Well, it's been awhile for me... you fellas know me, Cubs fan, but also a local KC fan, been off-line due to the phone not working on NSBB as posting, so I been lurking.

Finally, got the internet at home.

As for the Royals getting Meche, Dotel, and Bale, some people are wondering why blow money on guys like this when they are more than a player away.

Take Meche for example, even at 5.31, he's a full 2 points lower than most of the pitchers the Royals send to the mound.

I would love to see the Royals do well again. Same goes for Tampa Bay.

When was Tampa Bay good in the first place? I dont remember them being worth a hoot since their creation.
