Aside from all that, and aside from Murton' superior OBP...I also think you can't overlook how much Murton's produciton would be helped in the 2 hole. Being protected by Lee, as opposed to being inbetween DeRosa and the pitcher has to help him a TON. As is, he's simply the best #2 choice around for us.

Couldn't agree more.

Izturis should rot in the 8 hole.

You mean the 8 hole, in Cleveland.

That would be even better.

I am so looking forward to Lee coming to the plate with no one on base if Soriano and Izturis are batting 1/2.

To do anything different would be stupid considering how well our 1/2 combo has worked the last few years.

The difference is, you might be leading the game 1-0.

I can live with Soriano leading off and leading the game 1-0. I can't live with Izturis being the automatic out before Lee even gets his bat out of the rack.

Piniella said Matt Murton will get plenty of playing time

Well I'd sure hope so.... the starting left fielder does tend to get a lot of playing time.

I think I'd like Barrett in the 2-hole. He's a pretty free swinger who thrives when he gets pitches to hit. He'd see a lot to hit if he were in front of Lee and ARam. If you put him down at 6 or 7, he's got weaker hitters behind him and he's more likely to hack and make outs on lousy pitches.

I wonder why nobody considers Barrett for the #2 hole. I think he'd be perfect. I guess I'm the only one, including Piniella.

Because you either have to juggle your lineup 25% of the time or bat Blanco in the #2 spot when he plays.

This shouldn't matter. I doubt the Mets hit Todd Pratt at cleanup back when Piazza was their best hitter, and I doubt that the Tigers put Vance Wilson in the 3-hole. Most teams with a good offensive catcher juggle the lineup when he sits. For the Cubs, all they have to do is put Blanco at #7 and move DeRosa to 2nd in the order. Not a big deal.
