There are many rumors out there today talking about the Pirates wanting a power hitting outfielder. This was also from a Pittsburgh paper:

"A Pittsburgh-area newspaper reported that the Pirates could obtain an outfielder from the Reds for pitcher Zach Duke."

If they would be willing to do that I think that we could give them Jones and a prosepct or two for Duke they would make the deal. Duke has a very live arm and has shown us many times how tough he can be. Is a deal Hendry should look into I think.

Just what the doctor ordered. That deal would afford 20m for 2 years for Schmidt. Marmol for Church, get some bench help and call it an offseason.

That would be incredible, I just have a feeling they would ask for a lot more than Jones considering they were asking Dunn for Duke.

Thats why we would have to throw in some prospects to sweeten the pot

I think Marshall and maybe a pretty decent prospect like Moore could be possible.

And those prospectS would probably have to be of the Pie/Veal/Paw/Gallagher ilk.

Just because the pirates are willing to trade Duke for an OF, doesn't mean they will trade him for ANY OF.

Jones is not the worst guy in the league. He is above average and provides the decent power hitting lefty bat that the PIrates think they need.

I really doubt that. Jones had a really good year and the Pirates dont seem to be smart.

Jones is right up Pittsburgh's alley. He's affordable and he's the lefty corner outfield bat they desire. Nady moves to 1b and Pittsburgh's offense is not too shabby.

I think the only thing that would be possible would be Littlefield laughing his butt off right before hanging up the phone.

Yeah, cause the Pirates have been such suave deal-makers in the past. And laughing and hanging up on people is most likely how professionals go about their business.

I like Duke a lot, but in order to deal Jones to the Bucs for him, we'd likely have to include a top 5 pitching prospect (and probably an A-ball type) while taking on one of their bad contracts - if they still have any. It might still be worth it at that point depending on which pitcher they want out of our top 5. Because if it's Hill, all bets are off. He might already be better than Duke. Or - he could be this year's 2005 Zach Duke for all we know.

The only one is Jack Wilson, and they still think he's the face of the franchise (which tells you a lot about the body).

Bay is the face of that franchise.

And, no, Jones for Duke won't happen. If the Reds are offering a power hitting OF, it makes you wonder just it might be. This could be interesting...

Since when was Jacque Jones viewed as the equivalent of Adam Dunn on this board? Duke is better than Hill, discussion is ridiculous. Just because Littlefield has made dumb trades in the past doesn't mean he will make this one...Hendry has made some very horrible ones as well.

Zach Duke had a 4.89 K/9 last year and sported a 1.50 WHIP. He certainly may get better - he is still young - but it's not as if he was dominant last year.

I'd be very happy to get him for Jones. They were of almost equal value last year, so it's not as if Pittsburgh should ask for much more than Jacques.
