That is a TOUGH decision. I would lean toward Pujols because of the Cardinals success, but the Phillies were somewhat in it because of Howard. This is a tough one, but what a story it would be if Howard won it in his first complete season.

Both are deserving.

howard almost carried the Phillies to the wildcard after the GM gave the team up for dead

The Cards wouldn't have made the playoffs without AP.

i agree. He was pivotal in winning 83 games

True, but Pujols was the best player on the WS champ's roster. Without him they would have probably not made the playoffs.

Plus, most of the voters suck and vote for the bigger name, which is pujols.

Pujols struck out 50 times while Howard fanned 181. Pujols has a much better glove, despite missing games due to injury. I could see it going either way.

That being said, they will probably award it to Beltran or Reyes.

He also a better base runner and has better "clutch" numbers.

That said, Howard winning wouldn't be a travesty.

Howard should, Pujols will. The old SportsCenter argument that the MVP must be on a post-season winner will win out.

Statistically, I don't think you can pick a clear winner. In peripherals, Pujols has Howard beat (although it is close), but in RBI's and HR's, Howard is ahead by a decent margin.

BA: Pujols: .331 (3rd in the NL), Howard: .313 (8th in the NL)

OBP%: Pujols: .431 (1st in the NL), Howard: .425 (4th in the NL)

SLG%: Pujols: .671 (1st in the NL), Howard: .659 (2nd in the NL)

HR's: Pujols 49 (2nd in the NL), Howard: 58 (1st in the NL)

RBI's: Pujols 137 (2nd in the NL), Howard: 149 (1st in the NL)

K's: Howard: 181 (2nd most in the NL), Pujols 50 (?)

OPS: Pujols: 1.102 (1st in the ML), Howard: 1.084

Defensively, obviously the Gold Glove winner Pujols is better, but Howard is no slouch.

An Pujols' did lead his team to the world series. I know Howard had the odds stacked up against him, but that is going to be a factor for writers who are voting.

Whoever wins though, it won't be by alot, and will deserve to win it.

I think it would. Pujols is a much better all around player. Howard should not win this award. That being said, he will most definitely win now. :x

Congratulations to Howard for winning the most homeruns hit contest. . .

it's amazing how inconsistent the voting is. When Sosa won it, people were clamoring for McGwire because of better numbers. Now we see the reverse, with the guy with better numbers losing to the guy on the better team.

pujols had a better VORP, a better EqA, better OPS, and a better WARP3.

...defense, base running and his team made the playoffs. Not that the playoffs thing should make a big difference.
