If Sammy wants to come back and give it a try, can't blame him. The way he went out was sad. Now of course he could come back and do even worse but....it's his call and I'd respect his decision either way.

If he comes back I'll be rooting for him to do well.

this will be the best sports movie ever

sammy comes back, now 195 pounds of lean muscle, and breaks barry bonds' single season home run record with 6 bombs in game 163 as the [insert team here] beat the cubs to go to the postseason

Yeah I can see it now, and I miss game 163 because newly divorced Reese Witherspoon is busily feeding me grapes one at a time and fanning me. 8)

if we're doing this, we might as well do this. reese witherspoon is not even close to acceptable for that role. and "fanning" is definitely the wrong gerund.

oh Reese is acceptable for any role as far as I'm concerned!

When I was in high school, Reese went to a nearby Catholic school. Her friends were much hotter than she was, and she was a little snobby.

Well, she's back on the market now!

I would love for sammy to come back...just not on the cubs. But definately not for any of our obvious rivals.

I can see Florida perhaps being a good fit for Sammy. Outside of Willingham, their outfield was pretty brutal this year. The Marlins will be looking for a low-cost, power hitting outfielder to spell Amezaga, Hermida, Ross, and Abercrombie (the outfielders that played the most after Willingham). Those 4 player combined to put up .239/.302/.364/.666, so they could use all the help they can get. If Sammy can come back and prove he can still hit, he could be a huge help off the bench or spell the young guys when they struggle.

Plus, Sammy chasing 600 would be a significant draw in south Florida where there's a substantial Dominican population. I would think that as much of a hero Sammy became in the DR, maybe he would be held in higher regard among his countrymen than your average baseball fans. Of course this is just speculation on my part.

The likely guess would be that if Sammy comes back, it would be as a DH for a small market AL team. Best of luck to him!

Florida? Do you think his ego would accept the league minimum for a salary.

There are better places for an aging slugger to try an resurrect his career than in that cavernous ball park.

Do you think anyone's gonna give Sammy more than the league minimum? If Sammy is gonna come back he better be prepaired to make the minimum and possibly incentives.

I don't want to see Sammy come back because I don't think he has it anymore.

And I agree with DKWG that the beaning was a major reason for the decline and I've been saying that for a couple years now.

Please don't come back Sammy. I appreciate everything you did for the team and the city but please stay retired.

I hope Sammy comes back... and makes a fool out of himself again. I'm surprised to see so much Sammy love on here.

You're really suprised to see so much love for a man who was the ONLY reason to watch this team for several years?

Sammy's da man, and Sammy is also da bad man. I have a love/hate relationship with him. I love things about him, and I hate things about him. If he comes back I hope he hits a respectable amount of HRs.
