The Brewers payroll will be at about $60 Million in 07, they were at 55 Million in 06 so they don't have much wiggle room and will be looking to add two outfielders, a lot of bullpen help, and maybe a starter. Does anyone think they might look to shed Sheets salary? I think he will make about $12 Million in 07. His stuff is nasty, but health is an issue.

Sheets would be a risk due to his health, but when he pitches he is dominating. This could also be a way to moves Jones, as the Brewers will need a few outfielders.

How about Jones, Marshall, Ohman for Sheets. I think Milwaukee would do that trade. They would add a RF, bullpen help, and a young fairly productive starter for a guy who is great, but has really hurt them by taking up so much salary and not being able to start 30 games the last 2 years.

Sheets, Z, Hill, and Prior could be filthy if they are healthy. We would only be taking on about $5M, so money would still be there for 2 of Schmidt, Zito, Matsuzaka, ARod, Soriano...

Sheets is an interesting player. He went to ULM, so I've always been a big fan.

I wouldn't mind having him, but if the Cubs traded for him, they would need some insurance for when or if he's not healthy.

Of course, how about the deal proposed...Marshall, Ohman, Jones for Sheets and then spin Sheets and Dempster to the Yankees for Arod?

Having Sheets in hand and available to be flipped heading into this ARod situation could definitely be huge.

Sheets does have a NTC though.

I think the Cubs should compile a list of the most injury prone pitchers avaiable on the market and attempt to sign everyone one.

Why break tradition?

I was thinking this same thing... Sheets and Willis are probably the only two guys the Cubs could build a 3-way package around to get ARod. Maybe:

Brewers get: Veal, Dempster, Izturis and a couple of million $ (for taking Dempster and Izturis off our hands)

Yanks get: Sheets and Jones

Cubs get: ARod

That only saves the Brewers 5M. I see if we have any deal with the yanks, Izturis will be heading there. They are one of the few teams that can (and will) spend 4M on an all defense bench player. The Brewers probably aren't getting enough in that deal. Although Veal is a stud prospect, hes still pretty far away from the majors and a lot can happen in that time. They'll need an additional "sure thing" pitcher (Marshall). Everyone forgets that the Yanks have had just as bad of a recent string of injured pitchers as the cubs have.

I just wanted to point out that the Brewers shouldn't look at add ANY outfielders even assuming they get rid of Jenkins. With Clark, Hart, Gross, Mench, and Nix they have a very capable, cheap, and developing OF. Heck, Bill Hall may be a full time OF next year. With Sheets, Capuano, Bush, Ohka, Davis, and Villanueva (if needed), they have a very capable rotation. They could use some more BP help, and I know its unpopular for a 4th place team, but I pretty much leave this team alone. With another year of maturation and some full healthy seasons, this team has a chance to compete now and in the future (Gallardo) without many changes.

Ben Sheets kicks all ass.

The guy was absolutely dominant when he was healthy, and I think he's a good buy low kinda guy (Brewer fans really seem down on him).

Then again, I'm biased because he is my favorite pitcher by far in the major leagues.

Mench won't be back with the Brewers, Nix is awful, Gross is a 4th outfielder, Clark is going to be traded because he is in Yost's doghouse and barely played down the stretch, and Gwynn Jr needs to at least start the year in AAA. Right now they have Corey Hart as a lock, and Bill Hall may play OF, but he is a better fit at SS, 3B if they wan't to give JJ Hardy another shot at SS.

The Brewers need at least 1 outfielder if not two. Ohka is also a free agent who they are not expected to resign.

Mark Prior's 2003 is better than Sheets' 2004.

OK?

Prior was also absolutely dominant when he was healthy.

Mark Prior's best season > Sheets', but not by a ton anyway. Plus, Sheets showed this year when he pitched that he is still dominant, he had a great K rate, his best BB/9, and HR/9.

He's still a damn good pitcher. Sucks that the guy went from being so durable to injury probelms fast. He averaged like 220 IP up until 2005.

I'm not saying this will or even should really happen, but why do we act like teams don't trade within the division? It happens every year. Why did the Pirates tarde Aramis within the division? Why did the Marlins trade Delgado within the division? Why did the Dodgers trade Green within the division? Most teams take the best offer regardless of who it is from.
