The Cubs press conference to introduce Lou Piniella as the new manager will be held today at noon CT. Please post discussion & reactions here!

UPDATE:

I recorded the interview from WGN radio. It's available for downloading or listening here:

The file is 101706_piniella_press_conf.mp3.

Unfortunately, WGN Radio didn't carry the full press conference and cut away about 13 minutes into it. The audio recording begins as Hendry is finishing up his brief intro remarks.

WGN Radio, ESPN 1000 and The Score have all said they will be carrying the press conference live. Here's the info for listening in:

WGN Radio AM 720 (click listen live in top LH corner)

ESPN Radio Chicago AM 1000 (click 'listen live' tab)

The Score AM 670 (click big orange Listen Live)

This will be televised on

Comcast SportsNet Chicago:

WGN TV

You should be able to stream it live through the Cubs.com website.

ESPNews has it listed as a program alert.

ESPN Radio just had their "sportscenter" and made no mention of it being televised by them. The Baker firing was on ESPN2 and I was made aware of teh broadcast through ESPN Radio.

Over/Under on references to intensity and hustle?

I'm setting that at 5.

Also, will Lou demostrate his fire by picking up Paul Sullivan and throwing him through the podium?

"urgency is important"

"First order is to hire a really good coaching staff who can teach. I'm a delegator, so I need a good coaching staff who can do their jobs."

His kids want to fly up and go to Wrigley Field.

Convinced the front office wants to win.

Long-suffering Cubs fans should know "we're going to win here, end of story."

Hard to hear questions ...

"No concerns -- the resources will be there and it's up to me and the coaching staff to get it done."

"I was considered at other places, but this is where I wanted to come. The Cubs are in the city, it's a wonderful city and a great sports town."

Was it understood you'd have a lot of input getting players you want?

"I'm a team player, when you look at a sports franchise, they have to work together from the top to the bottom to get things done. I'm just a small cog in this. We're all going to work together to get it done."

"That's not true -- I never once talked to the Yankees about anything, and I never even really paid much attention to it. The guy they have over there, Joe Torre, is very accomplished and I'd like to have the same success here as he's had there."

"You win with talent, obviously, but you also win with that talent playing together as a team. You've got a nice nucleus of players here; you've obviously got to add a few." Would like to emulate Detroit, south side.

"I speak Spanish, it was my first language. I learned to speak English with the nuns in grammar school."

Hasn't discussed ARod -- doesn't know where that came from -- obviously want to get very good players.

"Day games should be an advantage for you here at Wrigley." Going to focus on having a good bench.

"My philosophy is to get 8 midgets up there that walk all the time."

HE MENTIONED WALKS!

"You want hitters to hit in hitters' counts"
