perhaps ep should switch to cf in iowa which then would move pie to rf. i wonder if fox can play 3b as it appears that his catching skills are very limited. i still think that marmol should be switched to closing in iowa next year instead of starting.

I find it amusing that analysts state that Pignatiello has a new-life/is re-born as a reliever. His numbers as a starter were very good.

Pignatiello was converted to reliever because Cub scouts believed he was about to hit a wall due to his below average stuff. .... He hadn't hit it yet.

Of course, it could be that Pignatiello's velocity is way up after his transition to relief. That increased velocity might be the "new life" that analysts/scouts are talking about. Has Pigs velocity gone up substantially (more than expected) after his transition to relief?

I haven't heard any report of that.

I wonder if Moore is getting tired. I don't like seeing those numbers drop so fast and that's what I'm hoping it is.

Patterson seems to be very well offensively. I wonder if he has a good spring if Hendry would consider keeping him up if he proves he can handle second? It would be nice to have Trammell around to show him the ropes.

MiLB.com"]SOUTHPAW STRUGGLES: Eric Patterson, a former eighth-round pick by the Cubs, has been productive in each of his two Minor League seasons, batting .299 while driving in 133 runs. He had a bit of trouble this season against lefties, hitting .252 (39-for-155). His strong finish at Triple-A Iowa enhanced the average as he went 9-for-27 against southpaws for an encouraging conclusion to the regular season. But since he has been in Arizona, the struggles have returned. He's hitting only .174 (4-for-23) against lefties with four strikeouts. Conversely, he's hitting .400 (18-for-45) against right-handers with five strikeouts.

Adam Harben hasn't pitched since October 21st because of elbow soreness.

Isn't this blowing things a littlel out of proportion? .252 is not a horrible average, and if he's hitting well against righties and walking some against both, it's not a big deal. And yeah, .174 would be a concern except that it's a sample size of 23 ABs.

In other news, Mesa leads Grand Canyon 21-3 in the 7th inning

E-Patt 3-6, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI

Moore 2-5, 1 2B, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Fox 3-5, 1 2B, 1 R, 6 RBI, 2 K

Holdzkom pitched a hitless inning and struck out two.

EPatt's bat sure is looking good these days. Anyone watching the games? How's his defense been after the errorfest?

I haven't watched the games as I'm in LA and there isn't any video online. Looking at the box scores and the game logs, it looks like he has successfully played all his chances in the last 5 games, not just gotten away with plays where errors can't be charged but he made mistakes. In his first game after his 6th error, though, he didn't even get a ball hit to him all game, so it's really been 4 straight good games on defense.

But again, I'm not watching the games - I'm only judging based on game logs and box scores. I haven't read any personal accounts either from folks who've watched.

MiLB.com"]Jake Fox went 3-for-6 with a season-high six RBIs as visiting Mesa battered Grand Canyon, 21-4, on Tuesday.

Fox, who delivered a three-run double and scored in the first inning, added a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the fifth. The 24-year-old catcher collected seven RBIs for the Lansing Lugnuts on May 14, 2004.

Doug Deeds had an impressive game off the bench for the Solar Sox (12-12). The former Ohio State Buckeye contributed a pinch-hit RBI triple in the fifth and a three-run homer in the seventh.

Michel Abreu went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and four runs scored for Mesa, which totaled 21 hits.

Solar Sox reliever Lincoln Holdzkom (2-0) picked up the win after striking out two in a perfect seventh. Starter Kevin Mulvey surrendered a run on four hits and two walks while fanning one in four innings.

Rafters starter A.J. Murray (3-2) was torched for eight runs on eight hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings.

Kevin Richardson contributed a sacrifice fly in the second and an RBI double in the sixth for Grand Canyon (12-12).
