General manager Jim Hendry, who was not available for comment, plans to interview two internal candidates this week: Triple-A manager Mike Quade and Double-A manager Pat Listach.

Haven't seen this anywhere posted but could have easily missed it.

What's the point of these token interviews? Why waste your time? Does Hendry want to expense lunch/dinner or something...

I think we might see listach as our new pitching coach if it isnt rothschild..

Interesting... Don't former pitchers become pitching coaches? I imagine there are more desirable candidates to fill that position that a former infielder.

How so? Granted I have not followed his career post retirement but I find it hard to believe a career infielder would be a potential candidate for a pitching coach position.

And catchers (e.g. Dave Duncan), but not middle infielders. Listach may become hitting coach (I believe he's previously filled that position for Iowa), but definitely not pitching coach.

Listach seems to be a good guy. I don't know what kind of manager he will make. My guess is that these are just token interviews.

Interviewing Listach would satisfy MLB's rules for interviewing minority candidates.

Edited because I suck at typing late at night. :D

Listach will be managing the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League, which starts tomorrow. He has also been a regular reader of NSBB during the season. :) DJaxxFan can probably give some insight as to his managerial style in AA.

I'm glad they're considering some of the inhouse talent.

Don't know about either of these guys from our organization.

One thing though. Please promote Van Joshua to Cubs hitting coach. .

I'd rather he work on trying to un-screw up our future hitters in the minors.

Edit: Assuming we ever have any.

Updated chicagosports.com article.

Quade has a good shot of joining the Cubs' staff in 2007 as third-base coach, in which case Buddy Bailey, the team's minor league catching and baserunning coordinator, would take over at Iowa.

With only one year of managerial experience at the Double-A level, Listach would be a long shot to make the leap to a major-league managerial job.

But the Cubs want to reward Listach for the job he did at West Tenn. And by interviewing him, the Cubs would fulfill a directive from Major League Baseball that teams include minority candidates in the hiring process.

I guess so, I really had to look closely at the image results to tell. He's really light complected for an African-American.

Its hard for me to tell too, but thats because I don't see color. Everyone is American to me. I only know I'm white because I can catch a cab and belong to an all white country club.

Who's your NFL team then? It can't be the Bears.

I like that they are looking inhouse. It isn't a bad safety net especially given the 1 year window that was discussed in the MacPhail thread.

I think Quade is an excellent choice for 3rd base coach and is a thread of familiarity for the younger players. Listach is an intelligent guy who deserves a chance but I don't think that this is the right time. It might be too much pressure to have a "younger" coaching staff altogether, assuming Girardi is the hire.

I think Dave Wallace would be a good candidate to take over for Larry and I think that there are plenty of good veteran bench coaches available.

It's a Colbert reference.

How does he pronounce his name? If it's pronounced the way the blonde on CSN Sportsnite said it last night, I don't think I could handle having him on the staff next year.
