Are you kidding me? Bonds will be a Giant next season. You don't just let someone walk who is getting ready to break one of professional sports prestigious records. I think he signs a 2 year, incentive laden deal with the Giants. The amount of money he'll bring to San Francisco next year alone, will make up for any money spent on Bonds.

To think he'll be with any other ballclub next season is CRAZY!!!!!

Except for the little fact that the owner essentially said he wouldn't be back. I would think that reduces the idea from CRAZY to crazy or maybe even crazy.

I still think he'll be back. I don't think there is anyway they'll let him walk. He'll be a Giant. Mark it down. I think this is all smoke a mirrors from the owner. Much like Torre being replaced in NY was. Speculation/Smoke and Mirrors, even if it was directly from the owners mouth.

Extra Media Coverage

Jersey Sales

Anything extra that sells with a 'Giant name or logo' because Barry breaks/is going to break the record.

Spike in ticket sales - (are all Giants games sellouts? I have no idea)

Even though he this steroid scandel surrounding him, doesn't mean EVERYONE will be watching/waiting for him to break the record.

They can't get any more media coverage than they already have. I doubt they'll sell many more jerseys than they have in the past.

The only way he makes them a ton more money is if he gets to 1 HR away, then waits 10 home games before tieing the record, and another 10 before breaking it.

More media coverage? Sure they can.. When he ties/breaks the record, every outlet in the WORLD will be covering this. Sales in Japan will Spike, sales in the US will spike. Sales everywhere will spike.

And as for Bonds waiting 10 games to tie the record and 10 more to break the record, that is VERY possible. He's not cranking out 60 homers a year anymore, plus the nerves leading up to it, will be insane... Once he ties the record, there will be a very long drought before his next homer.

In 130 games this year, Bonds hit 270/454/545.

If Jones could be moved and Murton installed in right, I might would want the Cubs to take a flyer on Bonds. His defense in left wouldn't be much worse than we had with Alou. We'd need a half-way decent OF on the bench to fill in for the 30 games he can't play, but that production in the fourth spot would be nice.

I don't know the dollars he will command. He made 19 million last year. Will he be cheaper than 10 million? I don't know, but if the market for Bonds bottoms out to an under 10 million price tag, he's likely worth it for one season.

As hated as he's been, having that level of production would be nice.

Not to mention that the money in the steroid market will shoot through the roof.

And yes, pun was intended.
