Since Theriot has 147 total ML at bats, doesn't he still qualify for the 2007 Rookie of the Year? Isn't the cut off 150 at bats?

I'm pretty sure it's 130.

that's correct

Even so, I'm sure he would've surpassed the days cutoff by now like Cedeno and Murton did last year.

Is it PAs or ABs?

With all due respect, some of you should never criticize Hendry. The Cubs need to get the best player possible at all positions that are open. When you finish with a piss-poor record as the Cubs did, you don't go and pencil guys in for next year two days after the season-finale. That was the problem in 2006. Instead of going after the best players we just penciled in Murton, without getting top grade players in the outfield. We need to go after the best available players, period, and if after it's said and done it's Theriot than so be it.

I think you are not figuring in the fact that we know what types of moves Hendry will make so we type here how hendry can do the least damage. ;P

BTW I don't see how you can criticize Murton, he had just a great year for his first full season and at HIS price? Should be considered a staple in LF. Re replace guys like Pierre, Jones, and Izturis. Not guys like Murton. Some of you should think twice before you criticize us.

I think you should read my post again. I wasn't criticizing Murton, just that there is no way he should've started in left if you're going to sign guys like Pierre and Jones, who aren't top tier players. That's a big reason why our offense was so putrid. Had we had a Tejada or Abreu (and yes I think we could've had either one if people would get over the Prior lovefest) in the lineup then you could have gone with Murton and had a productive offense.

Oh I agree with ya. But you really didn't make it clear. I think you were criticizing people of going with guys like Murton. When infact if we are going to mix a few rookies in there. We want them to be guys who can produce like Murton. We can agree on that?

Heh, someone brought up a crazy idea of moving The Riot to center field but nobody commented.

How crazy of an idea is it? I'm not real familiar with Theriot before his cub career this year. Any chance in hell of sending him to winter ball to play center and him coming back serviceable.

It will be easier to find a CF that can hit for more power, get on base more than to find a MI to do the same. So it makes more sense to fill one of those holes at 2nd or SS with Theriot than to try and move him to the OF.

Theriot historically has shown very little power. It's unlikely he'd hit for enough power to be a significant upgrade over Pierre. His ideal spot would be SS if he could handle it defensively.

But if he can play CF (I haven't looked at his minor league game logs to find out), it opens up some more options. One of which would be putting Theriot in CF and signing Soriano to play 2B.

If the pegs are Soriano and Theriot, and the holes are 2B and CF, it'd be anyones guess which one fits best in the CF hole.

Yeah, the one thing we know is that Soriano is a bad 2nd baseman and Theriot is a good 2B. I think I'd much rather see if Soriano can move a little to his left and cover center after a full year of outfield play.

No more maybes. I want this kid penciled in as a starting 2B or SS for the Cubs in 07. I've seen NOTHING from Theriot that's not to like. He makes contact, he makes things happen, has terrific speed, excellent defense at two positions. Enough already. Even the "small sample size" argument doesn't hold water anymore.

One position solved.

he seems to be patient at the plate and he's cheap. that's all that matters. "making contact", "terrific speed", "excellent defense"--that stuff is just music--pretty, but near meaningless without the first two.

This isn't The Riot's fault. Theriot isn't as an attractive an option next year b/c this team stinks as it is currently situated. If we had Tejada at short and a productive corner OFer (Manny, Drew, Dunn, etc.), we'd all be a lot more comfortable with Ryan at second next year. May be if Jim does his job and surrounds the "support" players with top-line MLers....

And if its choice between paying Soriano 14 mill a yr for 5 years and finding out if Theriot can play every day, which would you pick? You can guess which way I am leaning.....
