College Football - Week of 9/23

Georgia Tech is ripping Virginia a new one, 24-0 four minutes into the 2nd half. Granted UVA is coming off a loss to Western Michigan, but I really think the Jackets are going to win the ACC.

 

They do look impressive, don't they?

 

BTW, thx for posting the run-downs each week. I really enjoy it. Saves me from scrolling through my guide a little bit---and I probably would have missed that Northwestern game tonight if you hadn't posted it (yes, it's sad.....I'm a NW fan).

4.5 hours until gametime. This is going to be a real tough one. Neveda is an experienced team with a very good QB and a quirky offensive scheme. Even if by chance Battle has a good game, it's pretty unlikely that the safeties are going to do well. Heinz is STILL out and they're really inexperienced back there.

 

And then of course there's the offense. Maybe Sutton will actually get 20 carries this time. McGee needs to open up the offense and just hope that Kafka does okay. Another conservative gameplan just isn't going to work.

 

A loss will pretty much kill Northwestern's bowl chances. A win will give them a lot of confidence going into the Big Ten opener against Penn State.

Speak for yourself. I think the interest level in basketball at Iowa is much higher than football at Illinois.

Tech's season really turns next week at VT. If the Jackets can win that game, I think they'll win the Coastal Division. They get Miami at home and the toughest ACC road game is at Clemson, who is in the Atlantic Division. VT will be 4-0 and will have played nobody when they face GT next weekend. Should be a great game.

Tech is a solid team, but UVA is trash. They nearly lost back-to-back home games against Wyoming and Western Michigan.

I'm amused that Tech is in the Coastal Division, and Boston College is not. Then again, it's pretty funny that F$U (along the Gulf Coast) is in the Atlantic Division.

The team needs to (continue to?) improve, but if they can win tonight and enter the Big Ten season with 3 non-con wins, they have a chance, especially with Purdue, Michigan State, and Illinois at home. Of course, 6 gets the bowl eligible, not necessarily into a bowl.

 

Reno with some costly penalties so far.

It really is amazing that football teams still haven't figured out that you need to snap the ball really quickly after an iffy turnover. You know, not take your sweet time.

And there goes Northwestern's season.

 

Now it's time to hope for two or three Big Ten wins and improvements that are going to pay off next season. Right now, this team just stinks, from the offensive line to special teams (okay, they have a special teams unit that would embarrass a high school coach).

 

At least they have a top 40 recruiting class going right now (12 3-star commits out of 14).
