From the boxscore it looks like he had a solid outing today. For those who got to watch, what was his velocity and stuff like?

I have a bad feeling that Hendry is going to count on this guy to be our #5 next year and just add one FA pitcher on the offseason.

Atleast you've got quality youngons this time around in Mateo and Marshall who might beable to pick up some #5 slack when needed. .

his control was improved, but still needs work, although i thought the zone was a bit tight.

he was throwing his FB 87-90 and topped out at 91 once that i saw.

encouraging as far as im concerned, but still needs work

what is his contract status, do we have an option on him for next season or is he a FA?

If he is healthy, I have no problems with a low-base, high-incentive contract. Once he gets back to 100%, the velocity should be close to what it was before the injury. Houston Wade Miller is a far better option for 2007 than a lot of the young guys in our system, and he's right on par with the other big name SP free agents.

If he can keep pitching like today and better until the end of year AND can be had on the cheap, sure, sign him for a one year/incentives deal.

And the zone today was definitely pretty tight.

He did pretty well today. You have to remember that he's a power pitcher. Not having another 4-6 mph on his fastball really hurts.

He'll probably get his velocity back. It was fairly encouraging that he could get guys out. The Dodgers have a lineup with some decent (and patient) hitters.

Problem is, does he like the cubs and appreciate them enough that he will feel inclined to repay them by accepting a 1 year incentive based deal. If so, I'm for it. How likely is that he'll accept? I'd say about 40%.

Personally, I don't see earth-shattering deals headed his way that would make him turn his back so readily.

Will the Cubs' brass want him back, that's the question. Boy do they have a lot of big decisions to make in the offseason. Probably more than they've had in a long, long time.

Without Kerry and a ? on Prior? Deffinatly. They (JH) know that we are in dire need of Picthing. If Miller imrpoves he might look good as a possible #4 #5 quality guy. JH still needs to out out there and get that bonified Ace like starter. .

considering the Cubs paid Miller a million bucks to have the "honor" of re-habbing him, it would be pretty frustrating to see him have a solid 07 for another team.

Or how about long relief? Surely he's an upgrade over someone like Rusch.

Walrond is an upgarde over somebody like Rusch.

I'd rather have Miller as a #4 or #5. I honestly think he has the stuff to be a quality guy. If he looks able to add another MPH or 2 on his FB in the offseason then he will be pretty decent in '07, I think. .
