I noticed this tidbit in Bruce's column this morning:

Lots of losses: Speaking of Andy MacPhail, the Cubs have endured four seasons of at least 90 losses since MacPhail took over before the 1995 season. The Cubs lost 94 games in 1997, 95 in 1999, 97 in 2000 and 95 in 2002.

2006 will make 5 seasons out of 12 where a MacPhail run team has lost 90+ games. Say what you will about the Tribune's desire to make money above all else, but at what point do they start looking in a whole new direction? Isn't now as good a time as any? The record speaks for itself. Then add on the complete and total embarassment that is 2006 and the fact that MacPhail has extended the man primarily responsible for creating this mess (Hendry).

Is it possible the Tribune will step in and clear everyone out, including Andy? I say no, but I guess part of me still hopes.

EDIT: this probably should be in transactions, oops.

It could have been in either but since you wanted it here I moved it.

I think it's time for a wholesale change. It has gotten much worse and it's time to see what's out there to improve this team.

No way! The Cubs don't think in terms of win and losses. Since MacPhail has taken over the Cubs have become wildly successful in terms of $$$$! Baseball is a business, so why fire somebody that has been successfull in making money. MacPhail will stay unless he wants to step down.

I do think it is time for MacPhail to go. But, I've heard his name mentioned as a successor to Selig when he retires, so my guess is that he will be retained until that move occurs.

I actually heard that quite a bit, and I could certainly see that happening. That would be the only way to get rid of him...

I'd like to see the commissioner's office hire him as an assistant to the commissioner so he can learn the ropes. That way we wouldn't have to wait until $elig retires.

That would be nice. The Cubs would then kick Hendry to McPhails old spot though.
