...this was a pretty nifty pickup, adding an interesting power prospect while his stock was low. Diaz struggled most of the year, failing to hit at Norfolk this summer (.224/.276/.330) after slugging .541 there last year, not to mention slugging .468 in The Show in 313 PA. He will turn 25 this winter, but getting him for a spare catch-and-throw guy could be a major steal...

So the Rangers get Diaz for a 24-year-old AA catcher who's pretty much a non-prospect.

But hey, we've got Freddie Bynum.

Any time a hitter goes to Texas, their value increases. Everyone can hit in Arlington. It looks like they might not be able to re-sign Lee, so they picked up some good insurance with Diaz and Nelson Cruz.

How many more hitters could the Rangers aquire? I thought they needed pitching but they seem to keep adding hitters. It's a nice trade for them but it just seems redundant.

It looks to me, that they are conceding the fact that they won't be able to re-sign Lee. And it is also a sign, that if Texas is trading for his replacement now, just imagine how much $$$ Lee is going to ask for in Free Agency.

Actually there are some rumors that are pointing to the Rangers trading Texieria before his contract is up. And considering who Tex's agent is....that maybe one rumor that may eventually become reality. So my guess is, Texas would use Tex as bait to get some pitching.

I wanted Diaz for LF or RF. :( He could have been a huge steal.

I tottally agree. He's having a bad year this year, but he is exactly like the player Hendry looks for but rarely gets. He can play a lot of positions and he can actually hit.
