That group A is about as wide open as it gets - any one of those teams could go through, imho.

No prizes for guessing which one I'm hoping for.

including wales and macedonia???

More so for the playoff spot.

Some roster names for the Mexico-pay-off-Bradley's-remaining-contract-cash-grab *cough* I mean friendly are slowly leaking.

Timmy Chandler, Stevie C, Bill Hamid, Tim Howard (controversial move, Klinsy), Freddy Adu and Juan Agudelo.

My interest in this game has increased a whole lot the past 7 days. Glad to see Chandler, curious about Hamid.

curious about Hamid.

Me too. He's a physical specimen. I don't know about his maturity and positioning, but he's an absolute monster and I've seen him make some serious saves. Big time, big league saves.

GOALKEEPERS (2): Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Tim Howard (Everton)

DEFENDERS (8): Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Edgar Castillo (Club America), Timmy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls)

MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), José Torres (Pachuca)

FORWARDS (5): Freddy Adu (Benfica), Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)

Brek Shea with the call up, given his recent form that makes sense. Beasley listed as a forward?

I'll preface this by saying I know this is his first camp and he probably has some questions about a lot of fringe players he wants answered.

Like:

Tim Howard (Everton), Carlos Bocanegra (Saint-Etienne), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls) Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)

These are all duh's.

Love:

Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Edgar Castillo (Club America), Timmy Chandler (FC Nürnberg), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Chivas USA), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), José Torres (Pachuca)Freddy Adu (Benfica), Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls),

Some youth and some (possibly unfairly) estranged faces. I like.

Hate:

Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt)

I love Orozco getting out of the doghouse from the Olympic red card, I love Heath Pearce being there just because we need competency at Left Back, Torres I don't believe is international quality yet, but in lieu of the missing Holden I like him getting some looks from Klinsy.

Kyle Beckerman and Rico Clark? What? There aren't enough central mids on this roster? We need these schmoes? Beasley? I know Klinsy loves him some wide play, but he hasn't been up to snuff for years. Buddle? Meh. I'd rather see Charlie Davies or Teal Bunbury.

What's clear is he is letting some important Euro guys take some time to get in with their club team in training. That's good. I'd also love to see Bobby Convey tried at left back now that Bob is gone.

NIce article on Hamid's reaction to playing for his country and with his hero, Tim Howard.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/post/dc-uniteds-bill-hamid-reflects-on-his-first-call-up-to-the-us-national-soccer-team/2011/08/04/gIQA5pORuI_blog.html

D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid didn’t recognize the number when his cellphone rang Wednesday.

“I thought it was a telemarketer or something,” he said after Thursday’s practice at RFK Stadium.

Hamid ate lunch and then checked the message.

It was from Juergen Klinsmann, the new U.S. men’s national soccer team coach.

“I was shocked,” Hamid, 20, said. “As soon as I heard the voice, I knew it was him. I didn’t listen to the rest of the message. I put the phone down and was like staring into a far-off land. I started crying a little bit.”

That's an awesome article, hopefully he gets the 2nd half.

Agreed on: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Edson Buddle (FC Ingolstadt).

I would rather bring up Dax McCarty too.

Btw, I expect a new face in the Belgium friendly. Especially knowing Klinsy's appreciation of wing play.

Ole Gunnar has a legit stud on his hands in Josh Gatt: http://www.tv2.no/sport/fotball/tippeligaen/se-soloraidet-som-holder-molde-paa-stoe-gullkurs-3552162.htm

Click the link for a run, ankle breaker in the box, top shelf finish that looks like me playing as Arjen Robben in FIFA 11 on my phone.

A couple of intriguing match-ups in the CL play-offs to determine who gets in to the group stages:

Arsenal v Udinese

Twente v Benfica

And in the EL play-offs, I guess Spurs will be very pleased with Hearts as their next opponents.

Chandler out, Zach Loyd in. Minor knock. Kljestan and Diskerrud scored today. I expect all three to be in Belgium.

Kljestan is already in Belgium.

(sorry, couldn't resist)

18 yr old Belgian international Romelu Lukaku moves from Anderlecht to Chelsea (pending a physical) for an undisclosed amount.

Bummer for the local league.

Well damn. Timmy Chandler played 90 today. He's switching to Germany.

Per Goff Chandler and Nurnburg committed to both September friendlies in exchange for missing this one

In AZ Alkmaar's first competition game, Jozy came on after 66 minutes, scored after 80 (their third in a 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven) and got a yellow after 88.

So a busy half hour for him

Nice.

United's 2nd goal in the Community Shield was very nice.
