sorry about the triple posting but any idea why ronaldo didn't start? i read he came in the 64th. this game was monumentally important, he must have been banged up from mid-week otherwise that's inexusable for SAF.

I actually kind of dig it. Even if we end up even on points, their goal differential wins it. Now they have Superman rested for a critical, critical Barca match. I think it was actually pretty brilliant by SAF. He needs this second European title to put him level with Busby and he doesn't care if he gets the premiership based on goal differential because in the end all he cares about is breaking Liverpool's record of 19 top flight titles and given the choice, he'll take the Champions league over the premiership every day of the week.

Cakes has gotten two more for the hat trick and an assist. He is on unbelievable form right now. Unbelievable.

Brad Guzan, on the other hand is concerning me a little. He has not looked good since the disappointing non-transfer.

this chelsea team really pisses me off. everytime i want to write them off as being finished, they suck me back in with a huge result. man utd. still needs to drop a point over their next two for chelsea to have a chance because of goal differential.

chelsea away to newcastle and home to bolton.

man utd. home to west ham and away to wigan.

hopefully west ham can steal another one away from man utd. just like they did at the end of last season to stay in the prem.

Unfortunately for West Ham, Tevez is on the other side this year. Yes I know that West Ham beat United earlier this season, but West Ham isn't in the greatest of form at the moment.

Hopefully Newcastle can steal something away from Chelsea, just like they did last year. ;)

I'm of two minds on Ronaldo starting on the bench.

1. I agree that SAF wants the CL over the PL (this year). Of course he wants both, no point in getting this close in the CL and then sacrificing your best options just because you're still fighting for the domestic championship as well. Man Utd must believe that they can beat West Ham and Wigan, so SAF did have that little leeway. Aside from that, if Chelsea don't get a hand ball just inside the box on a long cross in the last 10 minutes, it probably ends 1-1 and United essentially seal up the title. If Chelsea don't save two balls off the line in extra time, it ends 2-2.

2. Ronaldo is 23. He's incredibly strong and fit, and he can probably play 3 full games in 6 days and be ok. (And he isn't exactly racing back to defend very often.)

Still, I don't have a problem with starting him on the bench. He came on for a half hour, in theory his pace and rest might have been an advantage over Chelsea's players that started. Unfortunately, Ashley Cole pretty much owns Ronaldo. Cole played well again, Ronaldo had a game-tying shot saved off the line, that is that.

Btw, Everton-Aston Villa with a goal-scoring frenzy at the end of their game this morning, ends 2-2. The race for 5th is still on.

I'm betting Fergie would "love it, just love it" if New Castle take down Chelsea.

Btw, jozy with another goal and a drawn pk that led to the other today.

that's a good way to look at it. i was surprised because SAF was saying all week this is the "most important" match of the season, blah, blah, blah.

btw, the "superclasico"? how can it be a super classic when it's only been played for a few years?

Looking at the Championship Division and looking at who is likely going down. Southampton appears to be going down. Leicester is on the brink being level with Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday are 1 point clear. Has Nottingham Forest even made a sighting in the past 5 years. It must be brutal to be a fan of some of these older clubs that once were very successful.

I finally figured out why this picture bugs me: it looks like Riverdance.

For the first time ever there will be an all English final in the Champions League with Man United's 1-0 victory over Barcelona. The only goal came from Paul Scholes and it was a great strike.

Barca had some chances but couldn't get one in. It was a pretty entertaining game as well that was well worth watching.

Thats awesome, hope Liverpool can pull it out tomorrow. Sick of the whole Manu-Chelsea thing already ;-). Forgot the DVR today, setting it for tomorrow right now.

Great strike from Scholes.

Man United's back 4 played very well.

Great atmosphere at OT.

Messi with the ball at his feet is unreal.

That commercial was awesome.

That is all.

I've got Chelsea advancing, probably with a 1-0 win, though it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this thing went into extra time.

Drogba gets the opener in the 32nd minute. This doesn't really change much for Liverpool as they had to score today to advance.

Who's ready for extra time? Torres just equalized in the 63rd.
