What are the Cubs to do about their pitching?

I think the Cubs need to consider shopping Carlos Marmol. He's got good enough stuff that some GMs might overpay, and his lack of control is a killer. The last thing the Cubs need is another pitcher who walks 4+ per 9.

Jim Hendry needs to realize that if you're constructing a defensively-oriented ballclub, you need pitchers who hit bats. Like the saying goes, you can't defend against walks.

Seems like a good candidate to shop to either Cincinnati or Washington. With their need for pitching, they might jump at the opportunity. Not too sure who could be had from these teams, but it would be a starting point nonetheless.

to me there are only 2 ways to go. 1. spend and get 2 studs..or at least 1.

2. go with our young guys.

i makes no sense to go low ball and gamble on middle of the road guys like meche. they will cost much more and there simply would not be that much improvement in what we have. i mean do we want to pay 12-15 mil for a couple of starters that will get us to 5 or 10 under .500...even if they got us back to .500- where does that get us other than we would be in the race longer.

either go young or go for it...this inbetween garbage has got to stop!

The Cubs need to give Marmol some time to develop. He is only 23 and at times has shown the ability to become a solid big league pitcher. Let him try to fix his control problems before jumping all over him. Also, don't forget that Carlos Zambrano has been walking a ton of people this year but he is still a very good pitcher. Don't get me wrong, Marmol still needs to cut down on his walks but if you have great stuff, you can make up for that.
