Loretta away from Fenway this year: .268/.321/.323/.644

I still like the idea of seeing what Moore would like for DeJesus. Or getting Catalanotto to play LF or 2B(get him first then you get whichever position you can fill the best). Maybe even seeing how Murton would be defensively in CF.

DeJesus sounds interesting. The only problem with that is that I fear KC will want everything and the kitchen sink for DeJesus. Other than that, I'd like to at least inquire about him.

Yeah, it's pretty much banking on Moore not liking him for some reason, and/or DeJesus publicly falling out of favor/wanting out of KC.

No one should question someone's opinion. You can, but dont make it public.

What?

The guy laughed in my face because he thought I was totally wrong. How would you handle a situation like that?

I respect everyone's opinion. I was raised different obviously, and for someone to laugh in my face because he thinks my opinion dosent matter is messed up.

You've questioned others' opinions in this thread itself. That's how it works on message boards, as long as no one makes it personal.

Yeah I realize how stupid my post was looking back on it. I apologize for that. The thing that ticked me off, was that he basically laughed in my face, because he thought my opinion didnt matter at all.

Roberts has a career .263 average

Pierre has a career .305 average

Good god, man! How hard is it? If you want your protoypical "leadoff" hitters, and you're going to narrow it down to speedy guys, then your #1 priority is to get a guy that gets on base. And guess what? Roberts gets on base more.

batting average with get you laughed off this board anyway, but it'll especially get you laughed off this board when YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT FREAKING LEADOFF HITTERS.

in fact, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Is it wrong to have a different opinion??

Of course it is. What, did you think this forum was for debate?

But seriously, OBP is a much more important stat for a leadoff hitter than average. Especially for the guy who hardly ever bats with anyone on base, a walk is just as good as a single. That said, I don't know if I believe that Roberts will be any good next year. He is going to be 35, whereas Pierre will still be under 30. I think my preference would depend on the contract given out. If the team could do much with the money saved by ging after Roberts, then by all means, do it.

I was just giving some info on the two players. Then I was attacked for having a different opinion. Seriously man that is messed up.

No you weren't. You were "attacked" for using a horrible stat to judge a hitter.

Attacked is an overstatement, but people being laughed at for their opinion shouldn't happen even if it is an opinion that people consider extremely wrong, and doesn't have much statistical support.

If you using batting average instead of OBP as an argument for Pierre over Player X makes someone laugh, it makes someone laugh. It made me laugh too.

I know I should of at least gave more info than BA as a reason why Pierre is a better player than Roberts. Sorry guys.

*edit* but there is no need for someone to laugh at someone's opinion.

Laugh if you must, but don't laugh at the poster on the board because of his or her opinion. That's uncalled for.

I don't think we can conduct a reasonable conversation when we start laughing at outside opinions, no matter how wrong they seem. There are situations in which laughing at people is OK, but a discussion forum is not one of them.

I still like the idea of seeing what Moore would like for DeJesus. Or getting Catalanotto to play LF or 2B(get him first then you get whichever position you can fill the best). Maybe even seeing how Murton would be defensively in CF.

Catalanotto plays 2b? Man, his bat would be awesome for secondbaseman. Cobs should definitely do that.

How about someone like Reed Johnson? He's batting .352 with a .431 OBP. He doesn't take many walks, but he's been hit 16 times. Has some decent pop in his bat, and seems to play some solid D. Not sure what his availibility would be, but he'd be someone I'd like.

Hm, looking at his career he played it a lot less than I thought(100 career games). Still like the idea of getting him, except take more action to avoid him being the 2B. His BABIP worries me a little bit though.

His career numbers are pretty good even when he's not batting .320, though. If the Cobs don't want him at 2B, then they could get him for one of the corners at a pretty cheap price, I imagine. Better yet, they could pick up Byrnes and Catalanotto and platoon them for some pretty good production from a corner.

Chone Figgins. If the Angels make him available, then Hendry should go after him.

Do you think that 28 year old Chone Figgins would be happy about coming to Chicago with Pie in the wings at CF and Aram at 3b(assuming all the contract stuff is taken care of)?

The Cubs, should be at least thinking of dealing Pie for a impact bat, or starter. He is still only a "prospect".

Johnson's having a great year, but he's not doing anything different than previous years where he's a .283/.353/.355/.708 career hitter. His IsoD is a little higher, but that's due to HBP like you noted. He isn't hitting for more power, or hitting more line drives. He has put up a few more fly balls, but nothing nearly enough to make the 65 point difference in BABIP.

Johnson would be a decent backup OF, or maybe a stopgap if he could play CF. After his great year this year though, it will take much more than his value to get him.

So you agree with Dusty in the belief that this team needs major leaguers/vets?

No, but Pie is not guranteed to pan out in the big leagues. If a deal would come across where Pie and someone else was packaged for a proven starter, or impact bat then I would strongly consider it.

I don't think that's fair. Pie might be the best prospect in the Cobs' system, but that just makes him the big fish in a small pond. If Pie is a crucial part of a deal that upgrades the ML roster, you make the deal.

I have no problem with trading Pie, but it has to be a good deal. Can Hendry get that good deal or would giving Pie a shot be better?

I'm not sure, myself.

Edit: I just re read that and now I'm sounding like a Cubs fan.
