Walker's not the first one to say this. Given their home day record, I'd say it's time the cubs play day games on sundays only like the rest of the league. What is the cubs record in day games over the years? Anyone know?

But this would upset the fans, and we all know that attendance is more important then winning to the Cubs

Other teams play random day games during the week, and many play during the day Saturday and Sunday. Plus, others, who aren't used to it, have to come into Chicago and play them. If Walker is blaming it on the one bad day's sleep, then why aren't visiting teams having the same problem?

This topic is as pathetic as goat talk.

The Cubs suck because they make bad personel decisions, not because of day games. They've been playing more and more at night in recent years and have gotten worse.

This is the part that stands out to me, they play night games more now than before and have sucked for 2 years. Not to mention you can't play more night games at Wrigley because of the neighborhood. Its an excuse, which is all management is good at producing.

Walker is full of excuses. Dont other teams have to play these day games when they come to wrigley? This probably is the most pathetic excuse I have heard about the Cubs not winning.

what was his excuse in Boston, Cincinnati, Colorado and Minnesota?

Bad clams, WKRP, rocky mountain oysters, and Canadians.

I dont know, because I didnt follow his career when he was with those teams. Walker is not as valuable as many people here think. The guy cant field a ball for his life. He has no range at all. The only thing he would be good for, is a bat off the bench. Walker even said during that sunday night game against the Mets " I could give a thousand excuses, but nobody wants to hear them".

The day game excuse is lame. Go to bed earlier.

Exactly. It's not like they play at 8 AM. Christ, I've been putting my time in, but not actually doing anything for years after bad nights of sleep.

It's amazing how the Cubs manage to negate seemingly every advantage that comes their way. What should be a stumbling block for the visitors is magically transformed into a crutch for bitches who can't cope.

No wonder 2008 will make an even 100.

I heard an excuse about how the clubhouse is way too small, and that is why they are not winning ball games. It didnt effect the 03 team, or the 84 team. Bottom line, get better players that can perform day in day out.

Exactly. This is a pathetic excuse that is trotted out from time to time on why the Cubs suck. The excuse sucks. The Cubs don't win because the organization collectively has a low baseball IQ, and it has for a long time.

Besides, theoretically, the day game thing could work to the Cubs advantage. Why don't Cub players adjust to playing more day games, and hence perform better than visiting teams who aren't acclimated?

The tradition, odd hours, cramped conditions and raucous crowds would make Wrigley terribly fearsome for the opposition if only the Cubs would stop whining about it.

I don't think he came out and started talking about it. like with many things that players say, you have to take what he said into context. he was responding to a question a reporter asked about playing day games.

I don't think Todd was making excuses. he was giving his opinion in response to a direct question. he wasn't saying 'the reason we fail is because of day games.' I think we all know Todd a little better than that.

that said, its nice having intestinal fortitude by proxy, but anyone that thinks the Cubs heavy day game schedule doesn't impact their performance isn't existing in reality. this has been talked about by Cubs players for years. it does impact their performance. looking at their record since playing more night games is completely irrelevant, but if you really want to go down that road, compare their record in 03-05 with their record in a three year span before they played night games.

it simply is not easy turning around from night games to day games...especially when the schedule makers keep assembling the Cubs schedules with stupid spacing of days off, ie. making them back up road trips with home stands without a day off or sending them on 20 days without a day off. the Cubs have more days where they arrive at the airport at 2:00 a.m. and have to play a day game than any other team in baseball. it's really easy to pound your chest and say they should suck it up when it's not you who has to suck it up.

furthermore, the cumulative effect of playing all the day games cannot be denied. until you are a Cubs catcher squating in the heat for 9 innings day after day, I don't think anyone here has a right to say 'you should go out and suck it up and perform like the heat isn't happening.'

the Cubs suckitude is primarily a function of crappy players, but the day games they have to play exacerbate the problem.

But this would upset the fans, and we all know that attendance is more important then winning to the Cubs

Wrong..It would piss off the City and the neighborhood around the park. THats why there is a city ordinance that prohibits the Cubs from playing more night games. The fans...well as night games have shown, will show up no matter what. The Cubs would LOVE to play more night games...they make much more money from TV revenues from them.

Funny thing about day games is the opponents always seem to have no problem adjusting. It's a day game for us and a day game on the road for them... the day game excuse for losing never made sense.

wrong. the city wouldn't care. your only real point is about people in the neighborhood, and guess what...not one of them did not know what was in their neighborhood when they moved there. the majority of people that live in that neighborhood now live there because of Wrigley field and the amenities that built up around there. the ordinance still exists because there are a few very wealthy neighbors of Wrigley that hold more sway than the majority of the people in the neighborhood.

many areas of Chicago have changed dramatically over the past two decades, Wrigley should be no different, and the economy in the area would only improve with more night games. more people would be better off if more night games would be played, few would be in a worse position.

the people that bitch about the crowds or Wrigley are like people who move in next to a landfill and then complain about the stink. they came to the nuisance, and should have known that said nuisance would get worse long before it got better.

like I alluded to above, alot of times the opposing teams have a better travel schedule than the Cubs. furthermore, most of the time the opposing team has not been out in 90 degree heat playing baseball 3-5 days in the previous week.

those of you that jog or run for exercise...is it just as easy to have daily jog on days like today (the 10th in a series of extremely hot days) or is it easier to have a daily jog in say May after a string of unseasonably warm days.

there's simply no two ways about it. bodies wear down in this weather. what is surprising about this debate is people who otherwise despise anything irrational saying the Cubs day games should be an advantage since other teams aren't used to it. what a bunch of boo-hickey that is.

I can't see how having more night games would decrease attendence. If anything, it would increase attendence since most people are off work at night.

PLEASE let me be the one that has to suck it up and get paid millions of dollars to play a game I've paid to play my entire life.
