I have no problem with tinkering with a lineup as long as you are doing it correctly. Perez batting second is just wrong on way too many levels.

you guys just don't get it! Neifi's been battin in the number 2 hole his whole career! You can't expect him to change so late in his career and get used to another spot in the order! The kids haven't established a spot in the order for themselves yet, so they can be bounced around and will be fine in any spot! You have to let Neifi get into his groove in the 2 spot...

Why would he rather bench the guy that hit 3rd while Lee was out and put Perez in the 2 hole? It's funny how Walker doesn't get the chance to work out of his batting slump while one of Dustys country club members do.

Hendry deserves a huge share of the blame for whiffing on the signing of Pierre and for relying too much on Wood and Prior, among other things.

 

The Cubs signed Pierre? That's news to me. I thought they gave up 3 pitchers for him.

I have no problem with tinkering with a lineup as long as you are doing it correctly.

 

Agreed. Tinkering with a lineup is a necessity to give players the occasional day off. You also have to deal with injuries as well as slumps and hot streaks. Like you said, it's not a bad thing if done correctly.

I don't agree that tinkering is good. I think adjusting is. Tinkering suggests you're just randomly testing guys in different spots. I don't like the idea of trying a kid in the 8 hole, then leadoff, then 6th, etc. It's one thing if you are flip flopping your 3 and 4 hitter for some valid reason. And it's great to platoon guys with obvious L/R splits. But just throwing out different combinations isn't likely to create a positive atmosphere.

Agreed on the semantics part. I was referring to making adjustments to lineups for platoons/injuries/pitching matchups.

When Lee went down, Dusty should've built a lineup that was built more to be a scrap team like the 2003 Marlins, where there wasn't any MAJOR power aside from Lowell and Lee. He should've moved Walker to 1B, and put Hairston at 2B, instead of Niefi. He should've gone Pierre-Cedeno 1-2. He said Ramirez would need to carry the team. How about putting him at #3?? Barrett should've hit in the 4-hole, Murton at 5, Walker at 6, Jones at 7 (at the time, I was calling for his head), and Hairston at 8.

What difference would putting ARam third in the order make? None. ARam proved while Lee was out that his is incapable of carrying a team and needs another big bat in the lineup with him. The Cubs have batted Barrett behind Ramirez this year and that didn't help at all. He needs a healthy Lee in the lineup.

More and more I think Hendry really wants to ride out the season with Dusty so he doesn't have to fire him, he can just not re-sign him.

Baker said earlier this week that he expected to survive this latest scrutiny. "Why not?" he told reporters. "I ain't walking death row."

 

Or maybe Baker simply doesn't know he's a dead man walking. Hendry isn't saying much, other than Baker, his staff and his players are all being evaluated, and that decisions, hard decisions, will be made, presumably not long after the All-Star break.
