Great article and that was a great quote. But I have a bone to pick about this one:

Rookie starting pitcher Carlos Marmol gave up 3 hits and 1 run in 6º innings. He was victimized by a blown save from Scott Eyre.

I think it's unfair to say Carlos was victimized by Eyre - he loaded the bases with 1 out. The fact that Eyre couldn't undo Carlos's mess w/o giving up 1 run isn't totally on Eyre. If Eyre had started the inning and given up the lead - then I'd say Carlos was victimized. As it was, Carlos just stayed in a few batters too many.

If Carlos was victimized by anyone, it was the offense.

how is that funny?

I think it implies that the number two batters of late are not really threats to get on base.

Just because it's true doesn't make it funny. I like Bruce's articles as much as everyone, but it seems that people are going to extremes to worship the guy.

Speaking of which I happened to catch a bit of the Brewer radio broadcast from the first game of the series and Bob Uecker (aka Harry Doyle) was basically ridiculing Baker for have Pierre and Perez, two guys with OBP's below .300 batting 1-2 in the lineup. Classic, how true it is.

Sure, you just "happened" to be listening to Uecker.

It is an anal pun.

DLEE sees better pitches with the bases empty, dude.

That would be about 95% of the time that he makes a plate appearance.

Yeah, and it's really going to my head.

It is funny the way it is worded - and simply put it is a backhanded slap of Dusty Baker.

I'm not sure that comment constitutes "extreme worship," Goony.

Just looking out for you. Not trying to rain on the Bruce Miles fan club

You write a lot of great stuff Bruce, just not sure why that particular snippet was used for our daily adulation

No problem, Derwood. Actually, I wasn't trying to be funny there. I was just trying to point out an essential truth about Chicago Cubs baseball. And nope, no anal pun intended there.

I know you weren't, that was why I questioned it being quoted (by the original poster) in the first place. Keep fighting the good fight

boy - you would have thought there is no sarcasm anywhere on this board anymore. Bruce - I know that you were not trying to be funny, but stating the fact. The reason why I thought it was funny is that it is so obvious to all of us that do "honor" the OBP as a real statistic while other people (who make out lineups) do not see the importance of having guys in the #2 spot with higher OBP.

that is all - sorry if you did not find it a bit humerous. I did and I guess I have a funny sense of humor then...
