Bynum update

Freddie Bynum likely will be out until mid-August after incurring a blood clot in his right forearm arm during Saturday night's game at the Metrodome. Bynum returned from a Minnesota hospital on Tuesday and will be on blood thinners for the next four weeks. Bynum had a blood clot in his shoulder in 2004 while playing in Oakland's system.

And down goes another one of Baker's horses. The article also says Nevin is next to go because he doesn't fit into the Cubs' plans. What will Dusty do now?

Wow. Hadn't heard that about Bynum. Hope he'll be OK. Regardless of what ya think of him, I hope he'll be fine long term. I have to say, I like Nevin in there. He's my kind of ball player... kind of tough and maybe one of three actually able to hit a homer. They probably will get rid of him. Dumb.

That is one of the most depressing reads I have ever encountered as a Cubs fan. Why am I reading about updates to the big league club that include the names Womack, Bynum, and Pagan?

"Bynum update"?? Puh-leeeze...

Nevin has no future with the club and can't help them at all. It would be dumb to hold onto him. They have to get whatever they can in a trade.

Agreed. The trade mkt this year is very thin. If you can swing a good prospect for him you should.

...thus pushing the timeframe for Dusty's firing to at least mid-August, as we all know that Hendry wants him to be able to manage with all his horses

Freddie kinda looks like a horse. Other than that...

Best of luck to Freddie. Sounds serious.

Good news out of this is that Murton will be given a whole year once they trade Nevin.

No way. Mabry is one player that has been even worse than Murton. I'd say he'll get traded at the deadline if he had any trade value.

Since when has that stopped Dusty from playing the veteran?

So what exactly is your kind of player?

An overpaid, aging veteran who's struggles in another environment are being fixed by the vaunted "change in scenery," even though his playing time comes at the expense of our future players' development. Dude, he can hit a homer though, man, despite the fact that I could play better LF defense if I was blind.

Yeah, you sound like the perfect Cubs fan.

Um, Mabry PH for Murton in the 9th last night. I don't think Dusty thinks he's worse than Murton.

And Mabry is a veteren, and an unproductive one at that, the kind Dusty likes to play over young kids.

If this club somehow wised up and signed some decent coaches, I'd actually be curious to see what Bynum could do...as a bench player. He'll never be a starter, but he does have some speed and pop. If people ran this team that could kick him into gear and help him focus, I'd have zero problem with him as a backup off the bench. Same with Pagan.
