In terms of cable TV, is that even considered a curse? I mean obviously the whole deal about target audience and stuff, but considering that you can still hear it on TV during primetime...

Exactly. I heard the replays on the radio on 3 different stations and only one beeped the word out. Never guess who that was. Heres a hint the company that owns them owns the Cubs.

So what did he say in the interview?

After the home run off Novoa, he said:

"I'm a little confused-is this still batting practice?"

I've heard the word on any number of primetime shows, and its rampant on cable shows. Cable has taken it a step further, though. In watching "Old School" on TBS (which, I believe, was shown concurrent to the Cubs game), there was reference to a part of the male anatomy (and is also the first name of Ruthven, Bavetta, Sargent, York, and Pole). Hadn't heard that one on basic cable before.

I may be in the minority, but for it was pretty pathetic for him to say that yesterday during the seventh inning stretch. Not only was it father's day, so alot of kids were at the game, but alot of kids (like mine) were at home watching the game with their Dad. His act has its place, but it is not during a Cubs game. I remember Jeff Garlin singing the seventh inning stretch last year, and he handled himself with dignity.

I suppose in Piven's mind he does his little act and gets all kinds of publicity over it and it helps boost the ratings. Unfortunately, it worked.

One more reason to get rid of the 7th inning stretch singers. This is just like Ozzie's little act a couple years ago. It is all about self promotion.

Maybe it will start an escalation of who can use the most vile language without the Cubs permission during their rendition. Bring on Andrew Dice Clay, another shining example of how swearing makes you hilarious to a certain fan base, and I am sure he will really show it to "the man".

I personally feel that the guest interview is the most interesting part of most games lately, especially when its an old ballplayer.

I hope that no one's kids read the Tribune, since they printed the exact quote. Where's the outrage over that?

That said, it's long overdue to get rid of the 7th inning singers. Just play a recording of Harry. I think everyone involved would have a LOT more fun with that.

Harry used to sing during the stretch?

I would rather just hear the recording too but I think this has become a "thing" now and the Trib might be happy with the way it is now.

Yes, and he ended every song with "stop sucking you worthless sons of..." then dumped a full beer on the crowd. Piven's really getting a bad rap.

I've heard dozens of worse words come out of ballplayers mouths in game on TV. Ever see Maddux throw a bad pitch? Listen closely.

This is such a non-story it's ridiculous. I don't see how anyone could possibly be offended by this. If you are you probably should be watching "safe" children's programming instead of baseball.

They'll probably pass it to Santo next year, assuming he avoids getting fired.

I thought Piven's act was great.

The 7th inning celebrity parading fiasco has got to go regardless of what Piven said. Talk about spitting on Harry's grave (not Piven specifically, but what the whole sordid thing has turned into)
