Now that their half seasons are officially over, congratulations are in order for both the Peoria Chiefs and the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx for their stellar performances! The Chiefs clinched their division championship while the Diamond Jaxx made a late run at a spot in the playoffs, but finished one game behind due to the Chattanooga Lookouts winning today.

Let's hear it for them!

=D> =D> \:D/ \:D/

Here's hoping all of the Cubs affiliates make it to the playoffs in the coming months!

With the Northwest League about to start, the Idaho Statesman has a nice article about Boise. Some useful info about prospects plus the usual get to know the players fluff.

The game between the Chattanooga Lookouts and Tennessee Smokies will start at 5:00 ET. A win by the Lookouts locks the Southern league Northern Division first half championship and a spot in the postseason. A loss by the Lookouts forces a matchup on the 4th of July at Pringles Park to determine the first half champion. I can think of nothing better than a game with playoff implications in front of a SRO crowd at the big chip.

One of the few days where I'm more interested in a minor league game not involving a Cub affiliate than those that do involve the Cubs' system. Peoria has already clinched the title and Iowa doesn't play a split season, so those games aren't that important, but the outcome of the Tennessee-Chattanooga game could ultimately decide the Jaxx postseason fate.

Agreed.

For those who may be new to the Southern League playoff format, the schedule consists of 140 games. After 70 games, the teams leading each division is given an automatic spot in the playoffs. The records are reset and the second half begins. The top team in each division for the second half is added to the playoffs. In the event that the same team wins the first and second half, the team with the overall best record for the entire 140 games earns a playoff spot.

Iowa wins 5-4. Williams went 5 innings allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, 1 earned, 1 BB, and 2 K's. Atlee came in for relief and pitched 2 hitless innings only allowing 1 BB and 1 K. Wuertz pitched the final 2 innings and got the win, but his 9th inning was real shaky. He allowed 3 hits, 2 runs on a homer, and had 2 K's. Theriot and McGehee each had 2 hits, Montanez, Hoffpauir (whose hit was the 3 run homer to give Iowa the lead), Restovich, Soto, and Fontenot each had 1 hit. Pie pinch hit in the 7th and struck out.

Peoria threatening to tie with 2 outs in the 6th inning: Jesus Valdez doubled and then Yusef Carter with a single (Valdez held at third). Alberto Garcia is up. Garcia hits a grounder to third base, but the first baseman drops the third baseman's throw and everyone's safe. Valdez scores and Carter goes to third and the game is tied at 2.
