Ramirez flied out to right center field, Pierre to third

If Walker would have moved Pierre over like he should it would be 2-1....

Yes, because clearly this game is going to be won with small ball.

At least Walker can't hit into a DP now.

Walker, Bynum, and Pierre are the only Cubs position players on the team who have hit into double plays at a below average rate this year.

Move Pierre down the lineup and that would change in a hurry.

Not necessarily because I was citing a rate stat rather than a counting stat.

But Pierre did hit into more DP's at a greater rate than league average last year. Once the weather gets warmer, he'll start showing the Cubs his true GIDP skills.

BOTTOM OF THE FIRST INNING

Pierre took second base on an errant pickoff throw, E1

That dude's not clutch at all. Can't win games without clutch hits with RISP. Dude better work on his aggressiveness back at West Tenn.

But warmer weather shouldn't affect him because...ahhh, nevermind

Correct, but as the leadoff hitter, he will not have as many men get on base ahead of him as he would be if he were hitting, say, 7th or 8th. That stat might be a rate, but it requires a man on first, so it is mostly about sample size and opportunities.

Dusty needs to implement some clutch hitting drills during BP. That would definitely turn things around.

Dude Dusty preaches clutchness all the time, do you know where Dusty was when Hammerin' hank hit 715... it doesn't get any more clutch than that.

CUBS are 7-18 when the temperature is 70 degrees or above

Unfortunately, we probably won't get to see what Pierre would do in the 8 spot. :(
