Sean has a Q&A online today at Baseball America.

BA: See, we're all big Wolfmother fans at the BA Headquarters . . . well, at least a few of us are. Those guys rock out. You have any Rage Against The Machine? That's a little more our speed since we're older guys for the most part.

SG: I have to check Wolfmother out. I really like Rage Against The Machine. I remember hearing them when they came out. I think I was 16.

BA: Ouch.

Their first album was in 1991! Is Sean really 31? ;)

Thanks for the link, Serena. Interesting to read about the slider-curve situation.

I hope he can join the Jaxx sooner rather than later with the weather down there.

I can confirm that Sean has made it to Huntsville. It's good to know that he had a safe trip.

I'm sure the BA guy would have felt better if Sean had said he was 5 years old when they came out. :D

Thanks for the link, Serena. Interesting to read about the slider-curve situation.

I'm glad they asked about his curve, because the assessment that they gave earlier this year was underwhelming: "while some [scouts] liked his curveball, others said it was an average and loopy pitch that overmatched MWL hitters because he could locate it."

BA: The fastball aside, managers in the Midwest League rated your curveball as the best in that league last year. We've gotten varied reports on what kind of pitch it really is, so what is your overall assessment of that pitch at this point?

SG: Well, that's probably because I throw two different kinds. One is a loopy curve that I know I can get over for a strike when I need to. And it's not bad loopy, it's something that has been keeping hitters a little off balance, which is always good. The other one is a hard snapper I'll throw when I'm 0-1 or 0-2 in the count. My confidence in both of them is definitely there, but I really had a lot of trouble with it early on. I was using a slider a lot late in the season last year, and I tried to bring it back again this season. But when I started throwing the slider, I started to lose my feel for my curveball. I made the decision to scrap it completely and two starts later my curveball was all the way back to where it was before.

It's just been over the last couple starts that I've brought the slider back a little bit. I'll just drop it in there every now and then to get in a hitter's head.

couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. We're definitely pulling for him here in Peoria :)

I may now need to get a little more serious about trying to plan that trip to Jackson in August...

Sean is wearing #22
Hopefully he'll have the same success as another #22 that pitched for the Jaxx for six games in 2002.

But won't get traded like a certain ace pitcher #22 with the Jaxx last season. :(

Cubs righthander Sean Gallagher was anything but a first-round pick. In fact, he lasted until the 12th-round in 2004, but he's now one-level ahead of both Bailey and Romero, as the Cubs promoted him to Double-A West Tenn after he put up a 2.30 ERA in 13 starts for Daytona with 80 strikeouts in 78.1 innings. One National League scout who saw Gallagher both recently and as an amateur says the transformation has been impressive. "I saw him in high school in Fort Lauderdale and teams just weren't on him," he said. "He was stocky and maybe 88 mph with a lot of effort and there wasn't much projection." Two years later, Gallagher projects for the scout as a potential No. 3 starter. "Give him credit, he's found a lot more on the fastball, which is 92-93 mph now and he just pounds the strike zone with it," said the scout. "The breaking ball is hard and sharp, the body is still a little square-ish, but he's strong and durable--it's a pretty nice overall package."

Unless it's for a #24 from the Marlins or #13 from the Yankees. Heck, I'd settle for a #53 from the Phillies.

Hmmm, lets see, next year Maddux will be gone. Wood will probably be gone. The Cubs could use a No. 3 starter!

Somebody ask that scout when he thinks Sean will be ready...

Would just like to say that our family will be in West Tenn all next week and look forward to hopefully meeting some of you.

Excellent, looking forward to it!
