Probable Starters:

Iowa: LHP Les Walrond (6-1, 2.19 ERA, 70 IP, 54/35, 1.37 WHIP) vs, RHP John Patterson (rehab)

Daytona: RHP Mike Billek (0-1, 9.64 ERA, 4.2 IP, 2/2, 1.93 WHIP)

Peoria: RHP Todd Blackford (5-2, 4.41 ERA, 65.1 IP, 29/33, 1.53 WHIP) vs. RHP Jake Rasner (3-6, 4.34 EA)

Peoria's magic number is 1!

Les Walrond? Now I'm not a Cubs minor leaguer expert by any means, but why have I never heard his name before?

I'll be darned, drafted in the 13th round in 1998 ahead of Juan Pierre.
And despite being a career minor leaguer he could probably get Pierre out right now.

Looks like on the radar here in the office that Daytona will be lucky to play the next few days with "Hurricane Alberto" heading their way. Just spoke with Sean and it is pouring up there..

Daytona has postponed tonight's game. They currently plan to make it up as a doubleheader tomorrow night, but we'll see if the weather cooperates.

Strange to be having games affected by hurricanes this early in the season. The only Hurricanes that should be affecting sports schedules at this time are the ones in North Carolina that are playing for the Stanley Cup.

Oh well, better now than losing postseason due to a hurricane as happened two years ago.

Walrond is getting crushed in NO. Right now the I-Cubs are down 10-0 after 3; right now his line is 3IP 9H 10ER 3/1 K/BB and 1HR allowed. He's faced 19 batters so far too.

Iowa is down 13-2 now in the top of the 5th. Hoffpauir hit a 2-run shot in the 4th for Iowa's only 2 runs. Walrond went 3.2IP 13H 13ER 3/1 K/BB 2HR allowed.

Todd Blackford is finished after 6.2IPs: 4H, 2K/2BB, 2HBP, 0R

Teasley in to close out the inning ... and he does.

1-0 Chiefs at the stretch!

Davey Gregg singles with 2 outs in the 7th, but is thrown out at 2B on a pitch-out to end the inning.

Third runner to be cut down on the basepaths for the Chiefs. Chirinos was CS and Kyle Reynolds tripled but was nailed at home trying for an inside-the-park-HR. Gregg & Yusuf Carter with SBs.

1-0 Chiefs to the 8th

Any mention of how Carter's defense has been in the OF? I know someone (maybe you) had mentioned that he looked terrible when I first came up from Arizona; has he adjusted any or is his play still pretty rough?

The Chiefs finish up the first half with a 4-game set in Kane County. The Cougars are currently 2 games up on the Chiefs for the division lead.

With today's win, the Chiefs have clinched the playoffs, but they still have a chance to win the division outright vs taking the wildcard slot.

It was not me and I haven't heard Nathan mention it specifically in the recent broadcasts I've heard. You might want to ask Nathan in the sticky thread here. I know he played RF & CF the other night (shifted with player substitutions), and he was in RF tonight.

I haven't had a chance to get to Peoria yet this season because of a crazy work schedule. That should change soon and I'm planning on hitting several games starting next month -- I'll be sure to report back.

Walrond's ERA jumped from 2.19 all the way to 3.67. Ouch. I guess it's the curse of being picked ahead of Juan Pierre.

I-Cubs are now down 15-5, Fontenot has gone deep also.

CHIEFS WIN 1-0!!!

CHIEFS CLINCH A PLAYOFF SPOT!!!

Awesome!! :D

Go Chiefs!

Mississippi does a favor for the Jaxx and takes care of the Lookouts. The Jaxx are 1.5 GB with 6 to play.

Congrats to the Chiefs. I hope to go out to at least 2 of the Peoria-Kane County games coming up this Thursday.

Walrond's ERA is now back to earth after today's "performance." 13 ER's in less than 4 innings. That is pretty awful.
