Chicago Cubs

Selected INF Tony Womack from Triple-A Iowa and optioned INF Ryan Theriot to Iowa; Transferred RHP Mark Prior to the 60-day disabled list.

-------------------------------

My understanding is that they can make it retroactive to when Prior was first put on the 15-day DL ... but I'm not sure exactly when that was. It should open another spot up on the 40-man roster, at least until Prior is activated.

I've also heard that time spent on the 60-day DL doesn't count as MLB service time accrued ... but I'm far from an expert in terms of what that means. :?

In terms of this season, Prior was placed on the 15-day DL on March 27, which should mean that he'd be eligible to come off ... yesterday or today ...

Chicago Cubs

Optioned RHP David Aardsma, RHP Angel Guzman and RHP Jae Kuk Ryu to Triple-A Iowa; Returned C Casey Kopitzke to Minor League camp; Placed RHP Mark Prior (right subscapularis strain) and RHP Kerry Wood (right shoulder arthroscopy) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 27.

So the Cubs can activate him whenever he is ready to pitch then?

Yes. Basically, Hendry is delaying the decision of who to take off of the 40man that was created when he added Womak until Prior is ready to come back. I'm hoping he's working on a trade or two. As bad as the team is that Hendry has assembled, he's generally been pretty good at making trades (as long as the trading partner isn't Florida...)

One step closer to the Mark Prior obituary.
I don't think so. It was just a procedural move to allow the Cubs to bring up Womack without derostering somebody else. It won't delay Prior's return (since he's already missed the 60 days).

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

And Serana, Prior does get MLB service time. Time on the active roster, 15-day DL, 60-day DL, or barevement leave is MLB service time. Same w/ suspensions, so Barrett will get MLB service time while serving his suspension.

Yeah, we gave up Choi for basically nothing.

Yeah, the guy we got isn't even playing anymore.

Well, IMO the only trade that can salvage this season would involve a certain Florida player.

Joe Borchard is not the answer.

Josh Willingham would actually not look bad right now. He can play C while Barrett is out, and then we can platoon him in left, where I'm pretty sure he can play.

Thanks. I don't even remember where I read that.

That's one good trade for us against two good trades for Florida...I'd say they're winning so far on that one.
