And no other MLB team would even pick them up.

I count Bynum and Perez.

Are there others? Hank?

Does any other team in the Bigs have more?

Rusch would be picked up, and so would Bynum, as long as minor league deals count. Bynum is just too young and fast for many teams to let slip by, and Rusch is a lefty. A lefty! He throws with his left hand! Let's lock him down through 2022!

On the same tangent...how many of our players, if they went to free agency and asked for their current salary would get laughed out of the room.

Rusch has to be in that group.

tops would be

jones..he is an ok player but NO ONE giving him 6mil or 3 years

rusch..he'd be signed but nor for what we pay and it would be a one year

perez...would be under a mil and again no more than a year at a time

wood...not completely our fault because he might have been worth it if he was healthy but he would not get clement money right now

maddux...even as our best starter so far because of age he would never get 9 mil again.

except for wood, i really think we were negotiating against only ourselevs and we still badly overpaid!

look we just signed womack for a minor league....but we signed neifi to a 2.5 mil for 2 year deal- and they are the same exact player!

now that i look at it, neifi may be the stupidest signing in our history! i mean seriously, if cedeno flopped and neifi had to play everyday...with our lack of moves is their anyway we contend with neifi starting everyday? why would you overpay a utility guy to make sure you are at least mediocre?

Guys, remember, Neifi and Rusch were both released by their teams, and the Cubs were the only ones to take them. Both are also just as bad now as they were then. There is no guarantee others would pick either up.

They are not the same player. Womack's actually a little bit better.

Not really fair to say Rusch or Jones. Make no mistake, they would get nowhere near their respective contracts on any team but ours :x , but if they were released they'd be picked up off of the scrap heap pretty quick. I imagine Rusch would get a minor league deal with some team hoping to catch lightning in a bottle, Jones would get a big league contract and be in some other teams corner real quick.

As for players we could release, today, and they would not receive anything beyond a minor league deal, I'd say Bynum and Perez fit that bill best.

You say Rusch shouldn't be included, then say he'd get a minor league deal, then say Bynum and Perez are the ones that fit the bill.

There is a difference though in my eyes. Rusch would probably only get guaranteed a minor league deal, but it would probably be significant enough to include incentives and an above the minimum base salary if he made the majors. Plus I'm not forseeing Rusch staying in the minors for more than a couple of weeks. He'd be signed by someone desperate for starting pitching, who would put him in the minors for a couple of starts to help him get his confidence back  , and then unless he implodes put him in the rotation.

I mean, Rusch is bad, but he isn't 7.89 ERA bad. He'd probably settle into a high 4 ERA innings eater.

Whereas I do not see Bynum or Neifi getting anything other than a basic minor league deal, and if they get called up just the minimum.

If the Cubs released him I could see Hendry signing him to a minor league deal with huge incentives for a call-up.
