two outfielders on the same team so inept at the simple act of throwing a baseball?

Seriously...I know e've had innacurate arms or weak arms before, but this is ridiculous.

Pierre throws rainbows 15 feet over people's heads and 10 feet off-line. Jones stands in right field and drills the ball into the turf 15 feet before it reaches the infield. And these aren't just flukes- they've both done it 5 or 6 times this year.

We're not asking you guys to hit a moving target from 300 feet, we're asking you to THROW A BASEBALL, and paying you quite well to do it.

I'm more appalled by JJones than Pierre simply because I knew what was coming with Pierre.

I haven't watched as much "other team" baseball over the past couple of years and thought that JJones played decent defense, which in my book includes the ability to not spike the baseball every time you throw it.

sosa had poor execution but he had an arm...pierre and jones should think about kicking the ball back to the infield. yes, missing cutoff men by 30 feet and always throwing through to the base hurt the team just as bad but at least it didn't look like girls slow pitch throws!

The Cubs have led the league recently in poor-armed outfielders.

Rondell White

Moises Alou

Sammy Sosa

Juan Pierre

Jacque Jones

Actually, Sosa had a pretty strong arm, you just had no idea where the ball was going when he let go of it.

That's a good point. With Sosa it wasn't about arm strength

His arm was strong early in his career. But at the end, not only did he lack control, but he lost a lot of the velocity. He was lollipopping throws all over the place.

And the question was about being inept at throwing the baseball. Not knowing where it will go certainly qualifies.

I had never seen Jones play before this year but I read his throwing was very good. I don't know how he got that reputation. Overall I don't miss Burnie but he could throw.

I think the 89 team was pretty bad. Smith and Walton had noodle arms. Of course the Hawk could throw runners out at first that lined the ball at him, but Walton and Smitty were pretty bad.

Beernitz could nail a fly on home plate. That guy really had a cannon.

I hated his offense but he's a pretty good defensive corner OF. His range is respectable and he throws quite well.
