Maybe I'm overstating his lack of range, but at this stage, I wouldn't advocate putting him in RF. At this age with his leg injuries combined with having to learn a new position and his 3/4 delivery, I would not see it as a viable option.

He'd have a much better chance as a 3B than in RF.

I'd like to have Nomar again this year. But I don't think he would have agreed to the super-utility role I would envision. But I would have been more than willing to not re-sign Neifi, cut Hairston and use their money to fund Garcaiparra for a year. Between 2B, SS, 3B, OF (and, unfortunately, 1B) we could have found plenty of time for him to play on the field.

Sure, if the Cubs had a chance to bring him at 1B, I would not have a problem with him coming back.

The other parameters don't fit though. When healthy, he's productive enough to be a starting infielder (minus SS), his value will be that, especially if he can stay enough to merit sticking in the lineup.

Hendry's feet have been in concrete b/c they're looking for a short-term fix who can be slotted back to a bench role (if he is even looking), his value for trade is based upon a reserve, not a starter. Right now, Hendry is at their mercy, unless some team makes a mistake & undervalues a player, he'll likely overspend, IMO.

Agreed, they already have that in Mabry.

Personally, they should try and barter w/the Mets who just Zambrano for the year.

Offer them Williams for Diaz (who's stuck in a log-jam w/the Mets) and see if they bite.

getting a slightly above replacement level player to fill in for lee will do very little to solve this team's problems.

unfortunately, many (including cubs management, i'm guessing) think that the entire offensive problem is because of lee's injury. therefore, they will fail to see the numerous other offensive shortcomings.

the lee injury coincided with the end of the cubs' ridiculous good luck driving in RISP, which is more to blame for the dropoff in runs. the cubs would be struggling to score runs even w/ lee in the lineup right now.

Diaz will always be associated with the collapse that still hasn't ended, but yeah, I would deal williams for something useful in heartbeat.
