So the difference between the umpire and the catcher is a 900% difference in suspension?

Did Alcantara kick the guy in the face?

In the chest protector. It didn't look like he was aiming anywhere in particular, he just lifted his right (back) leg and kicked the catcher before he took off after the pitcher. He's lucky he didn't hit him in the throat, which would have been the worst place to kick him, since his body and face were protected.

Delmon Young returns today from his suspension.

TampaBayOnline.com[/url]"]

Saturday, Bulls OF Elijah Dukes was suspended indefinitely for unspecified disciplinary reasons. The day before, SS B.J. Upton was arrested for drunken driving after a game. Last month, Manager John Tamargo was suspended 10 games for bumping an umpire. And today, OF Delmon Young returns from a 50-game suspension for throwing a bat at an umpire.

One of [Rays Manager] Maddon's main focuses is player development, and even though he is removed from the daily goings-on in Durham, all the players and coaches involved play a key role in the future of the organization.

So, despite the fact Maddon didn't want to say much about the troubles in Durham, he did say that something needs to be done.

"We're going to have to really sit down and try to figure out how we're going to prevent that in the future," Maddon said. "Really this should be the last one. It's unacceptable behavior. We can't have that here."

Wow, more bad apples on one team than I've heard of in the entire Cubs' system. I guess that's the D-Rays for ya.
That's the "Devil" part of Devil Rays. :D

These are some of their top prospects and you can't forget number one pick in the draft, Josh Hamilton.

I had no idea Dukes had behavior issues.

Here's something I found about Elijah Dukes:

"Dukes was a multi-sport star in high school, and had a signed scholarship with NC State to play linebacker. However the Rays were able to persuade him to play on the diamond after taking him with the 74th overall pick in the '02 draft.

Dukes actually slid quite a bit because of his football scholarship, but also because of some off-the-field issues. He has been arrested for assault, has taken anger management courses the last two years, and has had his share of ejections and arguments on the field. "

So they are building to be the Trail Blazers of baseball i'm guessing.

My favorite:

When a television reporter approached him as the conference started, reaching out to place a mic on Young's chest, he told the reporter not to touch him. Later, in the middle of an answer to another reporter, Young snapped at a female reporter to stop touching his leg.

When he was asked if he spent any time going to anger management classes during his suspension, Young said no, that he had his own support group and he spent time with them. Another reporter pressed him, asking him who was in his support group and Young replied, "My own support group that I need to know, not you."

Nice kid.

Maybe he and his brother have formed their very own support group. There may be more truth to the Dugout than we first thought.

On yeah, HE DOES have attitude issues. The only reason why you didn't hear much about Dukes, is because of the fact that Delmon Young considers himself the baseball god, and that everybody should kiss his butt. Dukes was able to stay in his shadow, which was good, but also bad, because Dukes has a serious jealousy of Young, and how the DRays has handle him literally like a "millon dollar baby." Put it this way....Montgomery COULDN'T WAIT for Young to live the city. Dukes wasn't exactly given a "farewell party," either.

Both kids are incredibly talented, but I wouldn't trade for either, seeing as they would spend more time "discussing their problems with Selig" then actually playing the game of baseball.

Interesting US Today article on Young, Dukes and Upton.

"I don't know whose idea this was to play a day game," says Class AAA Bulls third baseman B.J. Upton, wiping the perspiration from his forehead. "It's the hottest time of the year here. It's going to be about 130 (degrees) on the field. And you wonder why we can't wait to get out of this place.

"I still can't believe I'm here. The three of us all thought we'd be all up in Tampa by now."

The "three" consists of Delmon Young, Elijah Dukes and Upton. Two outfielders and a third baseman. None older than 22. And the future of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

"They're not only going to be in the big leagues," says Mitch Lukevics, Tampa director of minor league operations, "but they're going to be impact players. They have a world of talent.

"But sometimes when you're young and talented, you lose some of that focus. They have to realize there is a bull's-eye on them. ... I'm not saying you have to go to the library and be a choirboy, but people are watching."

That Devil Rays dugout is going to interesting to see in a few years. Tampa is team with some good young talent right now. I would definitely consider trading a at least two of the three(Upton, Dukes, Young).
