I don't like reading Dayn Perry on Fox Sports just because all he knows how to do are lists, but this caught my eye because I saw Maddux involved:

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5535848

Regardless of how accurate he may or may not be in his assessments, isn't it a little early to pour cold water on some great early-season performances?

Will Maddux go 30-0 with a 0.75 ERA? Of course not, but it doesn't mean we can't expect great things from him this season.

Will Chris Shelton and Ty Wigginton become the Pujols' of the AL? It would be ridiculous to think so, but let these guys have their day in the sun.

Maybe Perry shouldn't concern himself with what won't be, and focus on what is happening around him.

Dayn Perry is a Cardinals fan, there's your explanation.

I am excited about Maddux's start and hope he can have a good to great season. However I do not expect him to contend for the Cy just because he is off to a 4-0 start.

I don't necessarily have a problem with this article per se, but Perry's provided plenty of other write ups that have convinced me he's the worst baseball writer in the business. I agree that he's a consummate idiot. As how it relates to this list he wrote, it doesn't take an idiot to surmize that Maddux and Shelton are good bets to not keep up the pace that they set over the first two weeks of the season. If I have any problems with that article specifically, it would be that it's an article that didn't need to be written. It's so obvious and stupid, he wasted everyones time that bothered to read it. I don't have a problem with the article other than the fact that it was probably the easiest write in his career.

I don't understand the problem with this article.

My problem with the article is that it's basically "yeah, they're all doing good, but it won't last."

It just seemed like a very downer type of article for so early in the season.

He could have done with same article with a different tone and called it "Early Season Surprises." Then I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

He would have had it been Suppan with Maddux's numbers.

There's no doubt that overall, Perry is a biased hack.

are you implying that another author might have included Luna, Miles, and perhaps even Pujols .950 slg. and Carpenter's 1.91 ERA in such a list?

you guys are awfully defensive. i think it's obvious that if you made a list of all the star players who are performing extremely well but are definitely going to fall back to earth, maddux is at the top.

I don't think anyone's being awfully defensive. No one has argued that his article is wrong. The criticism is based on two things: one, this article was written for retards, and two, his past writings. He's always been a biased hack, foxsports should be able to do with him.

Actually, Daske had a problem with this specific article for being a "downer".

he's the one who's biased, but you're proclaiming his article to be written for retards?

Well, it's not like I'm sitting in a dark room crying about it.

Did you need Dayn Perry to tell you that Maddux was unlikely to keep up his 0.99 ERA? Or tht Shelton was unlikely to maintain his early 100 homer pace?

Yes, the artcle was written for retards.

What is wrong with that article?

In a world full of people like Mike Celizic and Steve Phillips, why are we complaining about someone like Dayn Perry?

As bad as Steve Phillips is, and I can't stand him, he's a step up from Dayn Perry.

The same Steve Phillips that thinks Cliff Lee is better than Johan Santana? :?

Yes. IMHO, that Steve Phillips is more tolerable than Dayn Perry. Dayn Perry rates below Paul Sullivan from the Trib in my book.

what ever it is perry has gotten me annoyed. its really not funny on how many time he doubted derrek lee last year. not only that hes had the cubs doing bad in the division for years. just a cards fan having his fun.... hey i wonder what if it was say edmonds off to a great year or suppan or heck even ponson. still perry really needs to think what hes writing first because hes doubting a hall of famer whose dominated before.. any ways dont get me wrong im not really thinking maddux is gonna have a era of 1 or 2 the whole year but still he need to think about it hes a hall of famer with 320 plus wins..

go cubs!!! show em all!!
