Howry is a little off in each of his last 2 outings

How so? He got two fly ball outs. It's not his fault The Village Idiot took out a better fielder in RF.

Howry gets out of that inning with, at worst, one run scoring if Jones stays in the game.

Funny stuff............Dusty gets heat both for playing JJ and for taking him out of the game

Howry's been giving up too many hits lately.

Most outfielders would have caught the ball to RF which would have made the out to Pierre the 3rd in the inning.

But a run would have score on the first flyout either way

I'd rather be one run down than three though.

One run down is better than three runs down.

Plus THERE WAS NO FREAKIN' REASON to double switch because Dusty wasn't going to use Howry after this inning.

Can't blame Howry for that. He did his job. It should be 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 8th.

He allowed all 3 runners he inheireted to score. I don't think that's doing his job.

He needed to come in and get a ground ball at all costs.

Or a K. But he got the ball too far up in the zone to two batters.

This one's on Dusty if they end up losing.

I disagree. Even if JJ catches that ball it's still 4-3. Can't blame Dusty for Williamson being wild.

This one falls on Williamson.

Williamson walks the bases loaded without getting a single out. All score.

nice

If the Cubs could get more then two gosh darn hits against a AAA pitcher, maybe they would have swept this AAA team. And the Cubs are in no position to be "just satisfied" with series wins. If they can get the sweep, they NEED to develop that killer instinct, and complete the sweep. Sweeping the Cards, and not sweeping the Marlins, makes this Cub fan  .

That's the not so bad considering the bases were loaded when he came into the game. Williamson is to blame.

Note that way back near the beginning of the thread it was suggested that Jones should not be starting against a lefty, but should be used later in the game as the Marlins have a shortage of lefties in the bullpen.

Steve Stone would call that first-guessing.

Of course it does. Falls flat on Williamson.

I don't think that either pitcher did a good job.

Here's a stat for Fred: how well do the Cubs convert walks to runs compared to their opponents?

Seems like the Cubs don't take advantage of BB to the extent that they should, comparatively speaking. I wonder how far off my perspective is from reality?

Well, he deserves it. The Marlins had a lefty SP today and no lefty relievers. He should have been on the bench to start the game and then inserted against the Marlins bullpen.

Every time I watch Dusty use another useless double switch I come that much closer to wanting to see the DH in the National League.

Pitcher's spot up right now. Double switch totally not useless.

Why, oh why, are the Cubs being played tough by a AAA team? Even without Lee, the Cubs should have one all three of these games, COMFORTABLY. This crap of playing down to the competition has GOT TO STOP, because it is friggin' annoying.

This Cubs team isn't that good. The reason they are playing down to a "AAA" team is because their lineup is like a AAA team. The pitchers are minor leaguers. The leadoff man has been terrible all season, and is coming off a bad year. The 7 and 8 hitter are both terrible. They have very few weapons. The best player on the field is on the other team.

It's not that surprising that this would be a tough series and they might only win 2 of 3. This team is going to have to play the high wire act if they want to win much this year. There will be no streaks of comfortable wins until and unless they get a lot of weapons back.
