we have 4 wins this season when trailing going into the 7th. that's pretty impressive for the first month of the season. it says a lot about the attitude of the team and the quality of the bullpen to keep the game within reach.

I don't like Dusty at all, but it seems like he gets his players not to give up, so maybe he is a good motivator (though a bad manager).

I used to think that, but then I watched the team collapse in 2004 and 2005 (not to mention 2003) and I fail to see how Dusty could be a good motivational manager (in comparison to other managers) and allow that to happen.

Good point. I stopped believing in it after last year. This team seems to have a different 'tude; I dunno whther Dusty deserves credit or not, but I do get the feeling that he is looser than he was in 04' and 05', and its trickling down. The team really seems to be enjoying itself, and I loved the shaving cream pie that Eyre gave Dempster last night. In a long season, the team needs guys like that, IMO.

Last year's team doesn't win last night's game, or the final game in LA. This could be a special team. And a fun summer.

I've learned not to get my hopes up with this team.

It was mentioned on Comcast Sports Net that the Cubs lead the NL with 4 come from behind wins (after the 7th inning). I agree that last year's team probably doesn't comeback to win.

I'm not expecting miracles, but I am expecting a fun summer. This team is very likable and fights hard.

Last year ...... 5-64 when trailing after 7 innings.

Go CUBS !!

And according to the chart, we NEVER came back last year after 7 innings when trailing by 3 runs or more....

Of course, we never faced such a depleted team last year either...

So, Fred, when was the last time the Cubs came back after 7 innings when trailing by 3 runs or more...?

I've only got this data on file going back to last year. I really don't know.

I wondered why I felt so depressed after watching the game go the bullpen.

Last year was still ingrained in my mind. Now we have a solid bullpen, and we can come back from deficits! If only the government was the same.... :P

The exciting thing about these comebacks are the way the team is learning how to just get on base....against the cards they took walks to load the bases for Barrett, then last night Cedeno and Walker take walks to again load the bases. Last year's team goes up there hacking and we never have a chance to put any pressure on them

Well, up until the eighth inning, they were pretty terrible in this regard - it was almost like they were trying NOT to take walks. Except Murton, who, despite his slump, is awesome.
