Micah Hoffpauir is playing out of his mind.

I cant believe he is back in AA again this year. He has to be the next one up if something happens or if Walker's back gets worse.

Or when the pitching staff is reduced to 11.

Or when Hendry realizes that neigher Bynum or Restovich can hit.

Nice game by Shaver! Way to bounce back. What are the scouting reports on Shaver? How hard does he throw? Is he a soft tossing lefty like Piggy or Connolly, or is his stuff better than that?

Buck Coats is hitting well. He could be a better utility guy than Bynum soon.

I have to say, in a way, I find Gallagher's outing encouraging.

Judging from his line and from what people were saying in this thread, it didn't sound like he had his best stuff and that he wasn't getting a lot of calls. Let's face it, when you allow 11 baserunners and only strike out one guy, it's not your best day. However, he minimized the damage, got a ton of ground balls, and walked away with the W.

When a pitcher has a day like that, it's a good sign. Sometimes guys just pack it up and walk home. Other times, they bear down and do the best they can. Having that ability is critical for success, ya know?

Ground balls are a very good thing. If you are a strikeout pitcher (which Gallagher is better than average) when you don't have your out pitch you better be able to keep the ball on the ground. Carlos Zambrano seems to be the opposite. When he isn't getting a lot of GBs, his strikeouts tend to increase.....ala last night.

Agreed. In the time that I was listening to the game, it sounded like there were a lot of curves that were either just off the plate or not getting called for strikes. From the broadcast, it sounded like he continued doing what he was doing and didn't go solely to the fastball when he got in a jam.
